Default small issue after Battery drain

Hey all

After my battery drained for a 2nd time, I removed the battery and put in my spare battery and the car started right up and it seems there are no major problems. But this past weekend, i noticed that the driver's side window doesn't automatically close when I close the door. When i manually raise the window and open the door, it will automatically lower. When I close the door, it won't automatically go up. Anyone else experience anything odd like this? Any help would be greatly appreciated...Thanks in advance!!!

Try doing the sync manuever for the windows. With door closed, raise the window using the window controls on the door, push the up button past the detent and hold it past the detent for 1 or 2 seconds.

Let us know if this works.

You may want to consider this set-up to trickle charge the battery, perhaps overnight on weekends or any day you chose: http://www.slkworld.com/general-modi...g-install.html

I think the lead-acid battery will last longer with some preventive maintenance work.

Here's information from Battery Tender's website:

If a 12 Volt, Lead-Acid battery has an output voltage of less than 9 volts when
it is at rest, when it is neither being charged nor supplying electrical current to
an external load, there is a good chance that the battery is defective.

As a frame of reference, a fully charged 12-Volt, Lead-Acid battery will have a reststate,
no-load voltage of approximately 12.9 volts. A fully discharged 12-Volt,
Lead-Acid battery will have a rest-state, no-load voltage of approximately 11.4
volts. That means that a voltage change of only 1.5 volts represents the full
range of charge 0% to 100% on a 12-Volt, Lead-Acid battery. Depending on
the manufacturer, and the age of the battery, the specific voltages will vary by
a few tenths of a volt, but the 1.5-volt range will still be a good indicator of the
battery charge %.

From the 2008 Owner's Manual:

The power windows must be synchronized after the battery has been disconnected
or discharged.
If the power windows cannot be fully opened (Express-open) or closed (Express-close).
Each power window must be synchronized.
Close all doors.
Switch on the ignition ( page 37).
Press and hold both switches 1 and 2 ( page 235) at the symbol until the windows are
completely closed. Hold on to switches 1 and 2 for approximately 1 second.
The power windows are synchronized.

Thanks Eddy and Dan. I will try the syncing it. I am considering a trickle charger. Also, I was thinking about installing a Battery Disconnect so I could flip the switch to prevent the parasitic drain. Is this also something to consider or is the trickle charger the way to go?

I would go with a trickle charger because its an un-necessary risk constantly messing with the battery.

A trickle charger will do fine 90% of the time, when i would use a battery disconnect is if the car was being laid up for a few months.

As I plan to do the battery maintenance bit with the trickle charger on a weekly or bi-weekly basis, my personal preference is just to use the battery trickle charger. Moreover, if one plans to store the vehicle for winter or during long travels, you can leave the trickle charger connected to the battery for long periods. It will "condition" the car battery. IIRC, Corkscrew does this on his cars both in Florida and in Thailand for 6 months at a time.

Check out www.batterytender.com. I have the Battery Tender Plus (around $60). They sell extra pre-wire set-up separately if you want to do this on other cars in the family. (I am not connected in any way with Battery Tender). Ctek is the one that supplies to MB (sold in the boutiques at the dealership, but way overpriced as expected). Autosportcatalog.com also sells CTek, Battery Tender and their own brand of battery trickle charger.
