Exclamation Thinking of selling my 55.........

after seeing the type of cars parked at the college parking structure, i was sure that SLK should not be parked there.
that led me to financing a 08 nissan sentra 2.0S as a daily driver/school beater. i have debadged the car and went with 30/limo tint. after a few days of ownership i find that i am actually satisfied with this sentra. it's a very comfortable car to drive, and surprisingly handles well for a sub-20k FWD car, but obviously lacking in power. the transmission (CVT) performs very well. i found myself driving the sentra a lot more even for non-school use.

i know what you guys are thinking...i am out of my mind. i am absoultely sick and tired of cops bothering me with my loud exhaust, crawling out of parking lots at 1mph (scraping the bumper), trying to park next to a nice car, ,,and so on. yes, i am a paranoid one. i think i want a car that i can get around in with less annoyances and drive around with less care. the LA roads are absolutely horrible and i feel as if i am destroying my SLK everytime i drive it there.

the SLK's ESP system has been getting to me as well. it's really starting to annoy me.

i find it hard to believe i'm paying $1400/month just for my cars. as most of you guys know, i'm still a student. i still have a long time before my 55 is paid off and i'm thinking of selling my 55 for the best price i can get.

if i sell my SLK, i would be saving up some $$ for a 09 G37 coupe with sports package/fully loaded. the g37 has been getting to me lately.

any opinions/comments would help.

A 55 is no student car, no doubt. I would go for VW GTi - a fast car with plenty of room for beer, girls and steaks

It appears the newness has worn off your SLK 55. It happens with most things. Given your situation, downsizing might be a good thing at this time. If you sell the 55, chances are you'll be looking for a high performance "fix" before long. I hope you're able to get a fair price for your SLK.

Sell it,

Its one thing if you own the car outright you can be a little more fussy but if its on finance and its just sitting its not fair on the car or your wallet.

You've had quite a change of tune on the exhaust mod tho mate and i do recall a few of us saying it would get old fast.

You need something with more space and less value if your college car park is anything like the ones i used to go to then it should be a lot less value if you enjoy your cars paintwork

I think your crazy. I go to school to and while im just as anal, i find to live with it.

Im actually poking around right now trying to find a decent A4 i want or maybe an X5, as ive always had an suv until now. and I somewhat miss them, but eh we will see.

For me it will be hard to say i would want to leave my SLK for a 4 door 4 cylinder sedan. U got the drop top, and the speed. Maybe just revert your exhaust back? Give it some time, try to use the SLK a lil more in non school situations, and you will hopefully find the the emotion you used to get. Like it was said, maybe the newness wore off, and the new thrill of the sentra is still there.

A little question my friends:
If you´re going to school/university, buying such expensive cars, must insure them etc... - how do you pay that all?

Somebody has to pay for it at the end. I would not feel sorry if my dad was paying for the car. For some it is not a big amount....

He's not bothered by the exhaust...he's bothered by the cops! Heh...

Anyhow, if you don't mind the Sentra, then sell the SLK as soon as you can. It's a shame you'll be losing all those little mods with the car though.

Parking at school is a hassle though, sometimes you find a great spot, and you pass it up because the cars around you are too beat up, or the area lacks visibility (more likely to get stolen/keyed), and you end up wasting a lot of time parking.

BTW, i doubt the Sentra gives anyone any thrill at all....much like a Corolla, it's just an appliance.

Sell the SLK. You're obviously not enjoying it as much as you should, given the money it's costing you. The G37 is a fine car, but personally, I would rather drive a 335i.

Gero, my average day is 19 hours of scheduled time between work and school. The other 5 vary from day to day.

The one can't really be had without the other in 90% of the world.

definately...i feel myself being bothered and getting p*ssed off by the smallest things now. (such as scraping my bumper, the stiff ride etc.) you are probably right, the newness has worn off. it has taught me a great lesson tho. i just wanted a car others would envy, (fast, expensive stylish) and did not think about what I wanted in my car. i am now sure that i want something with more interior space, more front clearance, more high-tech interior, less attention but fast/stylish enough. that is the g37.

i know exactly what you mean. most of what you said, i do agree with. the only reason i do not use my slk anymore is that the roads here in LA are downright horrible (LA is where i usually go other than school). i feel as if i am hurting my car everytime i drive it. it really does stress me out. i'm sure the roads over east are alot better than here. i guess i have realized i can live with something decent enough to get me around for awhile.
i will be getting myself a g37, considering i have plenty of experiences with my mom's 07 g35 sedan. i know what i am getting in the g37. pretty much the same interior, and two less doors i have to worry about..more power, and a design that attracts me more.

I feel for you. That's a tough decision to make. I like the idea of a GTI. I think that would be quite a bit of fun. I'm not trying to pour salt on your wound, but the money you'll lose in depreciation would have probably paid for your Sentra.

i'm sure every family has a different situation/circumstance, whether it's something financial or not. i guess it's something personal for most, which does includes me.

yep, i guess you already understand my situation. considering we talked about this subject before. the sentra is definately not a car i'm looking for fun in. after all the time/money i've spent on the car, it's really doesn't feel good moving away from it. i'll have to see what happens.

Bah, just copy me (and your mom apparently) and get a G35 Sedan for a daily driver. It's pretty much the 'exact' same interior and similar exterior styling, with the obvious differences of doors and engine.

I definitely feel thankful that I can be comfortable and have all the extra room in the G35x when I want it, but I know I'd go crazy if I only had the Infiniti...sedan or coupe.
