Default 200 Miles - Easy!!!

I had to go to the office today - it happens every month for a day - which is 100 miles away from me!

Drove up, top down at 6:30 this morning. little chilly, air scarf on until the buffeting got too much. Stopped....top up... continue cruise... got car up to 130 leptons at one stage just to stretch her legs.

Coming home I decided top off all the way until a torrential downpore forced me to pull over an raise the roof again.

Back hime after a 5 hour meeting and another 100 miles.

Got out of car.... refeshed, relaxed, cool and big grin!!

This car just does anything and everything so effortlessly!!

2 weeks into ownership now and the impression just keeps on getting better!!

Wait until you go on a very long trip (you know, a 1,000-1,500 km trip). You are in for a real treat! After two years, I am still in love with that car.

you said,

'Coming home I decided top off all the way until a torrential downpore forced me to pull over an raise the roof again.'

pull over? not familiar with that term! !

you mean you have not installed 'smarttop' or piecha module so you can slow to 30 mp or equivalent in your country and put the top up or down while moving?

chop chop, order one!!!

Yep, remote roof the way to go!

I've had a few drivers point up to rain clouds to me in traffic before. I just smile and put roof up just as the rain drops start falling.

Glad you are enjoying your car! They are a blast to drive.

Have fun with it.

Driving an SLK in the pouring rain is a thrilling experience providing you are on a motorway. Last year, I was caught in a sudden thunderstorm on the motorway and I kept driving carefree through heavy rain for over half an hour with the top down. At one point, I had to stop and put the roof back on because a few raindrops started to fall on my lap from the upper front part of the side window but nothing major, really. The dashboard, the seats and the mid-section of the cabin remained bone-dry.

www.mods4cars.com, known as SmartTop (latest SW version is 3.1)

PM Bill T (///AMG 55) to see if he still has one left of the SmartTop roof module.

They are relatively easy for LHD (left had drive) cars. It is do-able for RHD (right hand drive) vehicles.

The difficulty in RHD is getting enough working space as the CANBUS is on the right side of the vehicle. You can gain more working space by removing a single bolt that holds the accelerator pedal (this is a drive-by-wire, so no mechanical links to remove).

Second, is fishing for and hooking up to constant 12V power line (some in the UK have suggested using the one that leads to the circular light control switch). Ground wire is easy: use the factory ground next to the engine hood/bonnet release lever.

I wonder how much it would cost to fit. Where is Dan based?

Does fitting affect warranty?

I've read quite a while back that some German installers were charging around USD $50 to $100. The install probably takes 30 minutes or less.

I believe it does affect the warranty in the UK, which is why the module has an "invisible" mode when deactivated, making it invisible to SDS (Star Diagnostics System) when going in for regular service. Moreover, I've read that others have routed the power cord (12v) from the light control switch to the roof module to follow the OEM wire harness and make it less obvious when the triangular side panel at the right side of the dash board is removed for other reasons (unlikely event).

You may want to PM DansSLK to find out where his new office is.
