Default Another new member...

Plan a. Buy a year old Boxter S or Z4 3.0.

Plan a.1. Drove both, not over impressed, so add SLK 350 to list. Drove the SLK, better than the other two, particularly the roof. Buy SLK.

Plan a.2. Give SLK back 4 days later. This one has too much of a flavour of lemon, for my likeing. Oh dear.

Plan b. Order new SLK350. Ready October, and plan to collect from factory. Ahh, those autobahns.

So, until October I wait.

Colin.

tryin to not being biased, but all three of those cars are close performance wise, then u throw in a hard top vert, and the 350's purr (imagine the 55's) and its game over.

Good choice on the ED, i wish i would of done that.

Hi! The SLK 350 is a GREAT car! I'm really loving it! I'm sure you will too! I went through virtually the exact same Plan A experience as you did (except I was looking at the Z4 3.0si instead of the 3.0i). The hardtop, head protection side airbags, and generally superior build-quality tilted me towards the SLK.

Yes, ED is definitely something I'll go with next time around as well. Also, did you know that if you joined MBCA for 12 months, you could get $2000 rebate on your SLK?? This is on-top of *any* deal you work out with your dealer (it has nothing to do with them; it is money direct to you from MBCA!). I'll definitely be exploiting that rebate in future as well!

cheers,
suntan

Welcome from the other side of the Pennines, Colin. You will love the factory collection, I did that way back in November 04!

Thanks for the welcome I love the idea of a $2000 dollar rebate, but I suspect a UK dealer wouldn't be too sympathetic...

I'm waiting for a more accurate delivery date than October, so I can start planning the trip...

For what its worth, I chose the SLK as I thought the BWM was rather dull in comparison and the Boxter overpriced , particularly the extras.

I also looked at the Alfa Spider. It looks wonderful, but slow (the 3.2 felt really sluggish) with too much scuttle shake.

The SLK just produces more grins per mile

Colin

If it's anything like my car, you'll find the build/delivery date is absolutely spot on - no earlier or later - I had to wait from June till November.

I agree with you in regards to the Alfa Romeo Spyder, It looks outstanding but the engine lacks feel and power. The Quad exhausts is a nice touch and I dont hesitate to call it a small Ferrari interms of the exterior.

I wouldn't be surprised, I bump into Northbenz (mbworld member) in Hinterzarten, so it's possible.

Looks like 30th October Just 10 weeks. Collect the car, 850 mile journey through 4 countries, should be nicely run in when I get home....

Be good to see someone else there, particularly collecting a 55

Right man! October? Perhaps we meet each other in Bremen. You´ve to walk upstairs into the restaurant - wonderful food. Ask for specials and they do. Once they´ve made some Yorkshire Pudding for me I´m sorry for you, I´m just getting a 350, too, no 55... Your way back should lead you from Bremen to Dortmund to Cologne to Aachen --> Belgium --> Calais/France --> Dover. Then you have lots of Autobahnen on your trip back

I flew from Teesside Airport via Schipol to Bremen, and got the ferry back from Amsterdam to Newcastle. For those of us who live in the North of England, it's much better than driving up from Dover. Although MB don't offer this route as part of their Personal Collection program, they are very flexible, and arranged it for me without any problems.

Me, jealous, of a 55. No chance. No, really, I'm not at all envious. Oh no. Not even the smallest bit. At all.

I'm planning to take the long route, good chance to run the car in properly, and do a bit of shopping on the way. They do brew Becks in Bremen, so I could bring a few bottles back with me

Colin.
