Default Delivery - Should I?

I have a new SLK on order. I was not expecting it till end August but had a call today saying it's ready for collection (I was going for factory collection but work commitments won't allow anymore).

So the car could be in the UK and PDI'd by end of this month - making it an 07 car.

I really want to take it but would there be a real difference in value if I wait till Sept 1 for a 57?

Thoughts please!!

I don't know what you mean by 57. But if it is a 2008 model, I think it makes a difference when it comes to reselling your car in the next few years. If you plan to keep your SLK for more than 10 years, it doen't matter much but if you usually change your cars less than 5 years after having purchased them, it may be worth waiting for the new model. When I ordered my car on April 15, 2005, there were no 2005 left already and I had to order a 2006. My salesman told me this was bad news AND good news. The good news was that it was the latest model and the bad news was that I had to wait 4 months for it. But don't you worry. No matter what year it is, an SLK is an SLK is an SLK...

I think you missed my point. In the UK cars have new registrations every 6 months. My car is built now and is a 2008 car so no matter when I get it that will not change. However - the registration can either be a 07 (March07-August07) or a 57 (Sept07-February08) and sometimes in the UK a newer reg date can affect residuals. That's what I was asking advice on!

Can you wait 31 days in August? How much of a difference will 31 days make in terms of the residuals? Is the amount significant to you?

I would just get it now the difference to residuals will be slim your certainly not at a disadvantage if you receive a car on the last day of the 0's the person who has got a car from the first few days of the 5's has no advantage over you at all.

Not sure how many dealers simply use the plate anymore because you can stick some privates on instead with whatever registration mark you like so you could have an 03 car marked up as an 06 for example and if the dealer where to accept that they would have a problem.

Will probably get your delivery date from MB and use that instead

One extra month of good weather driving is worth a lot. I took delivery of my 2005 SLK 350 the last week of November 2004. I would have gladly paid a bit more to have received it 1 month earlier.

I thought so much!

Does anyone know what the typical delivery time is on an SLK in the UK?

I was originally told (hopefully) September but have now been advised it will be October. I know the dealers are very much at the mercy of MB and can only tell me what they know but was wondering what other peoples experience has been?

MDLSLK55 stated a week or two ago that the production for the 55's (model year 2008) has been pushed back almost 5 weeks, hence the delay.

Hi Paul. I am guessing about 4-5 months. I only managed to get mine in 3 months as my dealer "borrowed" a July build from another dealer in return for a car they had that the other dealer had a customer for.
