Hi. Which service is indicated as being due? My understanding, the dealer will reset once the service is done. Don't think it's something the owner can reset. Not sure if you're the first and only member from West Virginia. Don't recall anyone else. Welcome to the forum.

do a 'search this forum' on benzworld.org for r171 forum for 'reset fss'. many hits and instructions

hope this helps some:

I reset the FSS on my E500 today. I think the procedure is very close on the SLK350. BTW, there is more than one key sequence to get to the service menus.

Here's the steps on the E500:

1) Turn key to position 1
2) With the display in the "default" normal driving position, (this should be speed or temperature) press the reset button three times.
3) The display will now read the battery voltage
4) Press down arrow once to get to service menu
5) Press "-" (minus) three times until you highlight "confirmation"
6) Page Down (key next to arrow down) to advance to the next menu
7) You should see Confirm Full, Cancel Full, Cancel Items.
8) Turn ignition key to position 2 (I think you could do this anytime after step 4 above)
9) Press Page Down while Confirm Full Service is highlighted
10) You should get a message confirming success
11) Repeat Page Up (key next to up arrow) until you reach the standard display
12) Start the engine
13) Page up to the screen that normally says Service "X" in "NNNN" miles. It should read "Reading Data Please Wait".
14) After 30 seconds or so it will read "Service "X" in 13000 miles.

You can also get to the service menu by holding the reset button down while the "Service "X" in "NNNN" miles" is displayed. But this seems to be a reduced function menu.

If you decide to change the date of the next "General Inspection" make sure you choose a date in the future. I thought the years and month were relative to the current date. So when I set the counter to year:0 and month:6 it thought I meant either 2000 or 1900 since it reported that I was 16020 days (43 years) past due for the inspection. I reset the date to year:5 month 10 (October,2005) and it is now happy with no error messages. It should start complaining in November.

I am happy to report that TeleAid did not call me to tell me that someone was tampering with the FSS reset menu. []

This works on a 2006 SLK 280, but you have to press the reset button 3 times really fast while the airbag warning light is still on. After that just follow the above directions. The key presses are counter-intuitive since they don't work like the other menus but it does reset the FSS indicator.

Hi,

My 2 year old SLK indicated 8 days past B service which is it`s first service. I changed oil Mobil 1 and filter only, as car had already been through a full pre purchase inspection 3 months earlier, equal to a B service inspection without oil change. I did as suggested and reset service indicator, it worked OK other than it now indicates 9800 miles to D service, how do I get it to show 9800 to B service.

Bob.

When I reset mine after it showed Service B due, it then said service C in 13,000 miles. After a few days it started showing Service B in 12,900 miles. Not sure why it did that. The miles are counting down correctly but it has remained with displaying Service B.

Took it in for an oil change and they didn't reset it on purpose because I didn't do the Service B as they wanted... The car only has 8000 miles and it's a 2006!...

I just reset it with these instructions and it worked out great... Thanks!

I thought these instructions seemed familiar. I first posted this "how to" to the benzworld R171 forum in August 2005.

I think more recent MYs may have some additional challenges when it comes to resetting FSS.

These instructions came in REAL handy today.

My low mileage (6401miles) SLK has been complaining for Service E (155days). I finally went to the stealership to only perform a brake flush since I had the oil changed at 5K miles.

The stealer refused to reset the FSS+. They claim they need a computer and all the jazz. Since they were not performing the service, they were not using the computer. I HATE liars.

Well, i'm glad I was able to get this print out and cleared the FSS+.

Thanks for all your help here.
