Default Twin Turbo V6 SLK AMG!?!

If you checked out AMG forum you might have heard that there's been a survey sent out from AMG lounge... I already posted in that thread, but I thought the implications are big enough I should create a new thread for general discussion.

The whole survey is only for C and SLK-class AMG owners - and it is designed to gauge reaction towards the AMG owner's reaction towards smaller displacement turbo V6 instead of big V8 in AMGs.

Engine choices in one question was: V8 and twin turbo V6.

I see a turbocharged SLK AMG instead of 6.2L V8 in our future...

I would think it would actually create better weight distribution and better for modding. What are your opinions?

Was any power or performance data included to help in the decision process?

Nope. Just questions about if we cared about displacement and environmental effects - maybe turbos cause more CO2 emissions? There sure were a bunch of questions about how much we were green-friendly or not... Other half were gauging reaction toward a smaller turbo engine vs. big V8.

Nice one!

V8 Turbo / Bi-Turbo maybe?

Or better yet V12 Bi-Turbo would need a bigger engine bay but thats a sacrifice I'm prepared to make

I suppose i could live with a V10 if i had to.

V8 turbo or V8 supercharged wasn't an option unless you wrote it in.

haha, Very good!

Its not a size thing really but i just love the rumble of a V8 or the scream of a V12/10.

I just can't get my head around a V6 don't get me wrong they can be made to go like hell but the car would be started not woken up and that makes a big difference to me.

I´ve just driven a V12 twin turbo - next months it will come a 350V6 turbo with about 320PS, I promise.

lets hope benz doens't try to "follow" porsche's 911 path. instead they should just go with raw power in the SLK63 AMG

V8 for me as well - it's the MAIN reason I opted for the SLK55 over other roadsters out there. Not that a V6TT can't be made just as fast or faster, but for me I love the easy stress free performance that a healthy large displacement V8 offers, what with it's gobs of torque all across the rpm range. And yes, ohhhhhhh that glorious exhaust rumble - no tea pot noises can compete there at all!

Maybe it's just that I'm an old guy (59) but the acceleration of my stock SLK 350 is quite adequate for me. I live in a suburb of Chicago and it's rare that I get an opportunity to use the HP that I have let alone the HP of a turbo V6 or a V8. If this weren't the situation, I'd have bought an SL65AMG or a Ferrari.

Come on yall don't want a kazoo with a blow off valve? I don't think I would have bought my SLK55 if it had come with a V6 (FI or NA). I mean the sweet sound is a big thing for me.

I would say they are looking at a V6 for weight reduction and emissions.

Granted I didn't buy my SLK55 new but I don't think I could drop $70,000usd on a SLK with a V6. Just seems cheap.

Plus I guess it would be similar to Acura putting a 2.3L turbo I-4 in their 4200lb small suv. Uh sure it makes 240hp and 260tq but it still sucks balls. Anyway I know I shouldn't have brought up Acura in a MB forum but anyway. Carry on.

i agree with you about acura.... their engines are refined but also weak compare euro car's engine. back to the topic YES !!! i proper V8 rather than V6TT ~ but i want to see MB make both ~~ slk350TT or 280TT
not that i don't want a see V6TT in AMG line but for AMG line...i think it's way weak compare to competitors... i meant new BMW 330i came out with TT that makes almost 300hp~and New M3 is coming out with?? oh yea ~ that's right V8 !!!
come on now~ SLK AMG with V6TT?? give me a break....

my comments were similar to many i've seen here. go on a diet, produce the slk63 AND offer more factory options, such as carbon fiber parts, and a manual tranny.
