| got in car this morning at 845 am. dead, no interior lights, could not turn key, nada. called mb roadside assistance number at 850. road tech calls me at 915. i told him car is 25 months old. gets here 24 mins later. have new battery. under warranty. i did not have my radio code number but fortunately when he hooked the battery up and reset everything, radio/sat/mp3 all commenced working. on the road at 10. tipped him $20. my old 2002 slk 320 had a dead battery at 2 years also. yes i have original vario roof but have had it a year so i don't think drainage was involved. just gets hot here in florida.

| No Tele-Aid wont work with a flat battery but there is a separate number to phone if you need to. jbanks, Pleased to hear mate. There are no codes for the new headunits mate they are just looking for matching components in the car if they find them they power up.

Parts are married to each other and are kept secure that way, so one unit looks for another that in turn has been hunting for something else and so on. You can't just whip out any parts and install in another car without coding and for some parts not even thats possible they will work on one machine only.

If you switch off the headunit all you are doing is pausing/muting any playing music and putting the screen to sleep all the clever stuff stays awake. If you disconnect the MOST plug on / or have a fuse blow for a component on the fiber ring then this will shut down Tele-Aid

These things are so hard to steal anyways, the latest trends are either getting a towing eye on the car and pulling it up into a lined container then gutting it and selling the parts or breaking into the owners house and simply stealing the keys because its so much easier. There are systems that require 2 keys to start the car one being the MB smartkey and the other a key card and if its not in range when you try and start the car a solenoid thats installed in a hardened case and welded to the starter disconnects the battery feed so the thing wont spin-up and the engine wont fire, some also have sirens so they sound if somebody tries to start the car without both keys.
