| Hello all! Check engine light came on thursday night. took it in to dealer friday morning. tech entries: fuel evaporation system-test, perform control unit- software (after short test), install control unit-..... code (after short test), perform perform star diag found codes 1085(po455), 1600(p0071). perform fuel tank perform control module reprogramming & scn coding. now ok dan, can you tell me what those codes mean? so i drive home and then as i get near home, the check engine light comes on again. smoke is now coming out of my ears as blood pressure rises. i return to dealer this morning. get a service rep and technican that are more knowledgeable. (roof module deactivated as was 3rd brake light flasher) here are the notes: customer states check engine light has come back on see history attached electrical fault erratic signal from b14 outside temp sensor while driving short test, perform test program - after short test, perform air cleaner, r & r (my note, fyi, sport filters installed) sam control module - left side engine compartment, replace (a electrical system, test / determine condition outside temperature display sensor, repl. (after test) eng. compartment panel, bottom - front part, r & r short test, code p0071 (my note, apparently first tech, while getting both codes, only fixed one!!!!!) performed readings of actual values/test after test, printout. r/r air cleaner, inspect intake/maf sensor & connection, clean & tight. r/r drivers sam perform elec test to conn 1 pins 1 & 2 of b14 found erratic reading 18k ohms. r/r eng compartment panels, replaced b14 outside temp sensor. road test 10 miles & cycle key 10 times verify concern remedy and short trest again, no codes present now. **** apparently there is a new software recall out**** campaign battery charger connect (with sds connected) start diagnosis system (sds), connect & disconnect engine control unit software check (with das connected) performed repair # 1 of campaign So i am posting this issue as an fyi that where i just thought the outside temperature probe and display was just to let you know the outside temp it also works with the engine computer in the mixture of fuel (as it was explained to me in layman's terms) I am glad my 2nd tech was more knowledgeable to catch the 1st tech's omission of the code. Hope the light stays off! have a nice memorial day for those in the states!

| Ouch sounds painful especially since they both happened so close together and the tech had both codes in front of him glad its sorted for you now mate. The 1085 is Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (no purge flow - large leak) And 1600 is Ambient Air Temperature Sensor Range/Performance (implausible) As they have replaced B14 it was most probably damaged by a small bit of debris it happens often because of its exposed location without it the engine will tend to over fuel but only slightly since it is more than capable of using the other sensors to make the calculations its a purely emissions related code and would have no long term effect on the engine if it where left alone expect for the fact that it would be pumping some more nasties outta the tail. The first code would probably have been set by the failure of the purge valve to activate probably not been given the correct commands by the ECU.

| Thats sensor fails very often its either damaged by a piece of debris or knocked off of its holder and it falls onto the rad sometimes it can just be placed back in the holder but a lot of the time the heat from the rad combined with the surrounding air temp cooks it and you will end up with weird ass readings on the dash, slightly worse running and climate control malfunctions. You wont have the temp code any more now the sensor is sorted i can't be so sure about the evap system cause if it was not commanded correctly by the ECU then the new software would probably have fixed it but the perform fuel tank bit makes me think they could have inspected the valve the tech has not worded it very well so its hard to figure out but it could have been simply as a precaution or it had a fault either way the valve operates most times you drive the car if it was going to malfunction again because the problem was not fixed it would have done so by now.

| thanks!. i spent some time with the 2nd tech and he was very competent in his explanations. time will tell. i guess when you include the 'cel' for the gas cap/gasket incident, this made 3.
