Sorry to hear, it's not as bad as you think. Anyway, look at the bright side, you get to drive the SLK for a good 4 hours.

When I saw the thread title I thought "here we go" but if they are the only faults you have, your lucky.

Weak battery in key FOB, flat tire. Annoying, but minor. I wouldn't drive four hours to get a tire repaired. Remember, keep it simple.

I had a screw get in my tire and make it go flat. I just made it to my work parking lot. And it was winter with about 4 inches of snow, so I wasn't getting out and changing to the little blow-up tire.

So I pressed the Wrench button. Tire repair guy came over in about 20 minutes, removed and plugged the tire in the parking lot, and the amount he wanted was... wait for it... IT WAS FREE.

And I don't have any extra coverage (other than tele-aid).

Why don't you just press the button rather than drive 4 hours? Of course, the SLK IS fun to drive...

Not all punctures are repairable, it depends where the damage is on the tyre. It's better that they err on the cautious side than you have a blowout at 100+ mph anyhow I guess.

Yeah, I agree with everyone else, those problems are minor but it could ruin a good day, If it makes you feel any better, I also had a flat tire, I had to remove it myself and put the spare tire in. The spare is actually pretty nifty, took it to discount tires and found out it was not repairable and cost me $260 with installation iirc, at least your tire is free.

One dead abttery and one flat tire - Not exactly what I would call problem after problem.!!

I suggest you take some peppermint tea and calm down. Then you'll appreciate that all you have are two mild inconveniences!

Wow, I didn't know that Teleaid would plug a tire. I just assumed that they would just mount the spare. Good to know, thanks.

Oh, I just thought of another story that might make you feel better. My first car that I actually bought myself was a 1972 VW camper picked on the way back home from Africa. Drove around Europe for 3 months until my wife and I had $75 dollars left to our name and then shipped it home.

So this VW came with Continental tires. Over the life of the car 4 out of 5 of the original tires all failed with side-wall blowouts. The replacement Continentals never gave any problem. It looks like there may have been a faulty bunch of tires.

So the first one that blew out was in the Bavarian Alps! LUCKILY it happened right near a relatively flat area with a slightly wide area where I could pull off and change the tire. Man it could have happened in some really bad places before that. Edge of mountain and all that...

So does that make your experience seem not so bad

Default Flat tire?

At least you have a spare. The SLK55 doesn't even come with a spare, just a can of slime and an air compressor. BTW, if anyone evere has to use the slime stuff to temporarily repair a flat, be sure to get the tire repairer to wash the tire and the wheel very carefully to remove all traces of slime. It is corrosive to alloy wheels.

I'm very leary of owning a car without a spare. The spray-can solution only works with small punctures. What if you bend a wheel? Then you are stuck wating for a tow. I've had two different cars where I hit a pot hole and bent the wheel. In both cases I was able to get myself home using the spare tire.

That sucks mate,

Small form spare standard for the 55 in the EU guess they see things slightly different for the US no idea why since we both seem to think the same its better with a spare.

Or just call MB and get them to truck you to a dealer and stick on a new tire save messing about on the side of the road.

Is the spare tire for the SLK 55 in the boot/trunk in the UK the same as the ones supplied to non-AMG SLK's in the U.S.?

I'm thinking of buying one if and when the SLK 55 gets delivered.

Yeah its identical mate, that whole section of trunk is identical to the other SLK's so its just a push fit like normal.

on my car i have the spare instead of goo. i would prefer goo, so i bought myself a can, and left the spare in the garage.

I think you get the goo if you have any sort of optional rims.

I don't like running on spares, i'd rather have the car towed, or a full size tire brought out to me if the goo can't fix it. If i was going somewhere far where there might not be a benz dealership or tire shop, i MIGHT put the spare in, but that's unlikely.

Default spare

I think the normal SLK55s in the US have a spare ... its the 030's that don't have a spare. The spare tire will not fit.
