Default Waiting and Anxious

For the last 3 months I have been lurking in the background reading the forum intensely as I prepare for the arrival of my new '07 SLK 350. Well today I took the plunge and joined the forum. Seems like a great resource with lots of friendly advice and help. In late Feb I ordered a new SLK 350 - Manual transmission with Comand APS Nav, Premium package, HK sound system and Communication package, I also ordered IPOD integration and Bluetooth. The color is Iridium Silver - an easy decision for me. However I did struggle with the interior color choice, and I am still somewhat uncertain. I initially chose a red interior, but after searching this forum and the internet for pictures I discovered that the red is almost a fire engine red. I am a fairly conservative person and I thought the red just produced to much contrast with the black. Then one day I happened to park next to an older SL 550 with a burgundy red interior. I thought it looked fabulous, so I went back to the dealer and reviewed samples of these two colors. The SL red was indeed darker and my preference, but not available in the SLK. So after much debate I decided to switch to black. I believe this is the safest choice as I know I will like the black and I was just to uncertain about the red. It is too late to change but I wonder what other opinions might be on this. The car is being produced in the first "decade" of May and if all goes well I will hopefully have it by mid June!
I do have three questions for the group. 1. I have noticed in some of the pictures on the forum a small protrusion on the trunk lid of some vehicles. What is this? Is it an antennae for the satelite radio? 2. It is my understanding that the IPOD integration kit is installed by the dealer. Is this also true for a factory ordered vehicle? It seems so siily to tear apart the dash and console in a brand new vehicle to run a wire that could have been easily installed at the time of production. 3. I believe this has just been asked in a different thread so I will follow the repsonses there. I want to make sure I get the latest Bluetooth Puck. Is there a part number I should request? Cheers

Welcome SlacK, The red and black grows on you. I too thought the red too bright and was having plans for new interior change to burgundy and black. My wife said no way she has come to love the red. Anyway, we are a bunch of car nuts and you will enjoy our humor and the info available. Pls post pics of your baby when she arrives and post often

Congrats SLacK! I just took delivery of my 2007 SLK350 a few weeks ago, and I can tell you that it's well worth the wait. BTW, mine is iridium silver with red interior. I also have the iPod integration kit and mine was installed at the factory; not the dealer. The dealer will charge you a lot more for options after your car has been delivered. Therefore, order all your options up front and let the factory install it. If you want hands free communication, you have to order the Premium II package and also purchase the HF communication system. I recommend buying the bluetooth puck off eBay. I bought mine there brand new for a lot less than what you would pay at wireless4mb.com
If you want the MHI Bluetooth Interface Module, then the part no is: B67875878. If you go to wireless4mb.com and add this item to your cart, then it will show you the part no. This is the one I purchased from eBay. Hope this helps.

My vote is for Iridium Silver exterior and RED interior. I love that combination. I'm not much for iPods, but millions and millions couldn't be wrong. I do have the MB Bluetooth system and it's fantastic. I agree, get the factory guys to do all the install work. They do it best. Good luck with your NEW SLK.

Default welcome

we should both become parents at the same time as my car is also being produced around now and should be home towards the end of the month or the start of June.

I also went through some turmoil over the final spec, ended up with just about everything so as not to feel any buyers remorse.

Lets compare pics on arrival!!

Just one thing though, I believe that the IPOD install is dealer only. Nowhere does it appear on the factory option list, at least in Europe.

Maybe DanSLK can confirm

Thanks to all for the warm welcome. I too thought the IPOD integration was done only by the dealer. It is however interesting to hear that fastnfurious had his installed at the factory. Perhaps there are regional differences in the availablity of this option. My dealer believes it will not be done at the factory and will have to be installed when the car is delivered. The MB Canadian web site also suggests that this is a dealer installed option. I guess I will have to wait and see as I suspect the car has already rolled off the line.

It is sad to say I am presently wishing time away in anticipation of the arrival!

Welcome to the forum SLacK. Did you get a chance to look at the red interior offered by MBCanada in person? It looks like a deeper (burgundy) red on the Canadian site.

In Europe at least its dealer-fit only factory will not install.

They don't bother with the little things, they only do the US sat ant's because the trunk lid is different.

I'm partial to ash, I like the two tone effect matches with iridium silver perfectly. Congrats on your purchased, it'll be here soon enough and welcome to the forum.
