Default Part Number Please! - Plastic pins

Due to weather conditions (I think...) the plastic pins that secure the joints of the roof folding mechanism have become brittle. A local visit to the local MB distributor to purchase these produced a blank stare...

Could any of you guys could tell me what is the part number for these pins. Many thanks in advance.

All the best,

Charlie

There should be a fix for that under warranty so speak to MB about it.

They should not be brittle yet even in the most extreme conditions one thing there looks to be gunk on the plastic arms have you glued anything in the boot or been carrying anything weird in it?

Thank you for your reply. My car warranty period expired some time ago. I was carrying my gym and tennis bag in the trunk, nothing else. There has been a lot of dust due to heavy construction around my home. And no I have not glued anything. I would just like to purchase the pins I would only know the part number for it.

All the best,

Charlie

A 000 991 51 40

Must be a very short warranty they offer in Panama mate sorry to hear that.

Could be the dust but looks like something is eating into the plastic

I just had those replaced for free under warranty this last week (I didn't know these were covered, so it must have been a warranty issue), they kept popping out on me. Same part number that Dan just stated above.
Talk to the service person, it can be replaced.

I am currently at Houston. Yesterday I went to the MB garage at Sugarland and asked for the part number. I would have thought that these plastic pins are the same regardless of the model. They were courtious but not very helpful as they "could not find the part number" perhaps due to the fact that they do not sell my car here in the US. The parts head came out will a bunch of different pins (the one's that are used for the upholstery and alike), but not one corresponded to the one I needed.

Is makes me wonder if this is the part number... perhaps I would have to order this plastic pin from europe...

Regards,

C.

Ask the parts department to search the computers for the exploded view of the rear trunk partition and point to them the exact pin that you're looking for. They can click on a part and the part number shows up. My bet is that they're all the same pin be it 55, 350 or 280 in the US. The PN may not be the same.

Please post the PN that you use (for future use by members). Thanks.

I have the same problem, but I'll get it under warranty soon. I actually lost one pin on the right side of the trunk connector.

And the white stuff (gunk) is some form of lubricant for the folding connector and the pin.

Its so great that we all have similar problems (occasionally)

These reports make me wonder if this is a case of bad design. Perhaps a recall will be coming later?

I have had the same problem too. The part is actually different for 2005 vs 2006/7 models, by the way.

Which part is the problem, the 2005 one or the 2006/7?

The part number was given by DansSLK as being A 000 991 51 40. The parts persons looked at the computer with no avail. The parts head came out with a handful of different pins, but not one like the one needed. I will ask the local dealer to provide me a part number, given my VIN #. I will post later in the week.

Here is the part you want, same number as before this time i have added the ES2 for colour but that should not make a difference, sounds to me like a dopey dealership.

Part numbers should be tried both with and without spaces because they are not always entered with both.

I have attached the exploded diagram from EPC also so you can verify the part picked.
