I want to find the best way to mount the front license plate bracket. The car was a FL car where a front plate is not required. In MN it is required and I'm hoping I don't have to just screw the bracket into the plastic bumper. What are my other options? Note the bumper is off the car right now getting a crack fixed so now's the time to figure out a mounting process. Also, should I have the black lic plate mount painted silver to match the car? Thanks, Michael

| If you have the amg pkg, slk55er as a great tutorial here. http://www.benzworld.org/forums/r171...ont-plate.html If you don't, slktyperice mentioned something about a L-bracket, where you can drill holes under the bumper, so the hole isn't as visible. I personally would not mount it at all unless you get harassed by the police, Colorado is unfortunately one of the states that requires front license plate and I've driven over a decade w/o one with no problems.

This helps a ton. I was considering mounting the plate by itself on the mesh but having the bracket there looks less ghetto. Thanks for the link and tip. -Michael

I pick up a great item from gominigo.com. It goes in the tow hook connection on the front of the car. Ask for the Mercedes Benz 'No Holes' License Plate Bracket (NHLPB), version JB for SLK R171. I am not sure what version is needed for R170.

Just found the installation instructions on their website. Has more pictures. Looks really intersting. I think i am going to Home Depot to build my own ![]() http://www.images.gominigo.com/INSTR...NOHOLES_MB.pdf http://www.images.gominigo.com/GMG-NoHolesHelper.pdf some more info and pictures here: http://gominigo.com/NHLPB-MB.html But for $60 it is a bit over priced.

This kit is great. I installed mine, got a correctable ticket signed off, and removed the license right after. PERFECT! (Here in SF they give you $100 tickets for no front license plate, but it's dropped to $10 if you get an officer to sign off after installing the plate.) I was just going to pay my $100 fine when I luckily came across this. Thanks guys!!
