AUX input for Audio 20

Hi all,

I tried to have the official iPod integration kit installed but the dealer said it's impossible for R171s equipped with Audio 20. I investigated a bit about it and the main problem seems to be that my Audio 20 unit has no AUX input...

I read somewhere that it's possible to add such AUX input easily... anybody knows how? It could be that the Audio 20 unit is prepared for AUX input but they simply didn't connect a cable to make it available in the glove compartment...

Ivan, Dan ought to be along at some point, he should be able to answer your question. I don't have the R171, but I DO seem to recall a thread talking about adding the AUX adaptor.

Steve has ipod connected to the AUX port on his Audio 20, you can't install an ipod integration kit, that means your song titles/names will not display on the center screen (can't recall what's that called) between the tach and speedo. You will also have to change songs on the ipod, very limited in what you can do. IIRC.

I have heard of a kit to mod the Audio 20 for the AUX in but unfortunately i don't know any more about it.

I know its been done and control is limited because its audio only but thats about it sorry.

It appears that the Denison gateway is the only available wired solution for the Audio 20. There are plenty of available "wireless" RF modulators available that might work sufficiently until something else comes available. Many frown on wireless RF modulators, but they're cheap and easy to install. Advances have been made in this area. Several R171 owners have discussed removing the Audio 20 system for a multi function aftermarket radio system. Several have made the swap, but very little information available. Good luck!

Johnnie, the Dension gateway does not integrate with your center console & steering wheel controls, does it?

Steve, how did you manage to make the AUX input available in your Audio 20?

Today I'll have a look at some aftermarket radio systems (I'll post my findings)

So you can just press the CDC button to access the iPod? This sounds great, but when I look for a dealer on the site, it only lists Canada. Are there US Dealers?
