slk 350 bluetooth addition

Hi,

Does anyone know the best way to make use of the phone set up in the 171 models? Mine is a 2006 slk350, and I would like to use my bluetooth enabled iphone. Please advise.

Have you tried a 'search'?

Welcome from Valrico, Florida!
And welcome to this great forum!

‘Usercp’ at the top left of page, then ‘edit your details’ on the left side, ‘additional information’ near the bottom, edit your ‘vehicle’ and ‘location’.

You might want to post an introduction in the ‘New members introduce yourself here’ section, if you haven’t already.

If you haven’t, please use the 'search' feature at the top of the page for your questions as they have probably been asked before.
In addition, if you haven’t, please post your question in the appropriate discussion forum for a quicker response. Be patient and a knowledgeable member or guest will address your question.
If you wish to PM (Private Message) someone, you need 15 posts. To get those 15 posts quickly, just go to the ‘new members introduce yourself here’ section and welcome enough new members to obtain your needed posts to PM.

Welcome from London via Houston, TX! Options pretty much depend on what you have option wise on the car now. Parrot kits work will if you are just looking for a bluetooth phone option.

Do you know of a (cheap) Parrot or other kind of kit that will work with the Comand unit and steering wheel?

The SLKStore.com has some Bluetooth and IPOD integration kits available that they have had a lot of positive feedback on from customers. Here is a quick link:

I have a cartronics unit for sale, it was used for three months before i upgraded to a Z120BT. All of your stearing wheel buttons will work and the dash display will work. If you are interested PM me.

Had a early Parrot kit (Dec 2006) in our SLK 350. Better than nothing, but not impressed. To be fair, I'm sure technology has improved their recent kits. Went with the iTronics (by Cartronics) BT system several years ago. Easy install, works and functions like factory. That would be my recommendation. Used, at a good price, would be even better.

The units at the SLKStore.com are itronic units and have had very good feedback. If you can get a used unit that is a great way to go.

Why bother with aftermarket? If your car is prewired, you can get an official MB kit on eBay for about 500 bucks. I put mine in in about half an hour, + about half an hout to expose the back panel where it goes.

the only hard part is getting to the center console, at least in the 08 model. that took a scosch longer. The aftermarket units go in in no time, agreed. But the MB one utilizes the car mounted antenna. I just got an antennae collector from Wilson Electronics for about 20 bucks that will help with that part of the equation!

I have Audio 20 with no aux-in, no possibility of ipod integration and no phone pre-wire.

Just had the parrot MKi 9200 professionally installed and am very happy indeed. Gives me full bluetooth phone function (sound through car speakers, microphones by mirrors, voice control for dialling and answering). Sound is excellent.

I also now have ipod through the car hifi as part of the 9200 package. Overrides the Audio 20 automatically when is use and uses its own built in high quality digital amp. I have to say that the sound is equal to, if not better, than the Audio 20. Certainly brighter, richer and better bass.

There's also a discreet colour screen that I had wired to the bottom ashtray to show titles, album covers and caller names.

With ashtray shut the car looks original (I'm a bit fussy about messing with the interior), when I open it I can pop the screen on a small magnetic mount that I made so passenger and driver can see the screen.

Will post some pics soon.

Hi,

I'm new.. sorry about that. I saw you said you had the Parrot 9200 installed. Was there a special harness you had to get to have the steering wheel functions work? Also, is there a cable for the iPod connection with the unit? If so, where did you put it (glovebox?)? Does the bluetooth override the iPod when receiving a phone call?

Thanks in advance.

Never mind I think I may have found my answer; someone please tell me if this is right. I would get the Parrot 9100 unit and allow the wires to be in the glove box with the microphone behind the mirror. I would then get the Unika kit to have steering wheel control of the phone. I don't have the COMMAND system and I have the A20.

Thanks in advance, again.

I cant tell you about the wiring as I had my parrot installed by a professional. It uses the wheel buttons. Answering and ending a call. Also the volume controls. It also mutes the radio. But it doesnt use the MB instument display. I dont find that a problem. What I do like is the voice command when I just press the call button on the wheel and say the name I want to call. The parrot repeats it back then dials the number.
