| I'm not sure if this is the right area to post a question but I have a very simple one that should be answered quickly. Whilst getting accustomed to my new car I have been going through all the "computer" settings and commands and noticed that the first service is due in 15,000 miles. Surely the oil should be changed well before that. I know that things have moved on in the 38 years I have been driving but surely there ought to be at least an oil change after a 1000 miles or so? I have yet to read all the documentation that came with the car so perhaps it's in there. Thanks K |

| That's correct. The computer will let you know based on parameters or driving habits. Here's a link about the oil quality after a few thousand miles: http://www.slkworld.com/slk-r171-gen...05-slk350.html The service advisor told me to save my money when I asked about an oil and filter change after the break-in period.

| My service advisor told me it's not necessary either, wait until 15,000 miles but the problem is, that'll be at least 3 years time or longer for me. I don't drive it during the winter and or bad weather. I changed it after a year of ownership at 4000 miles. Just an added security for $100, it made me feel alot better whether it's needed or not.

| Elite SLK World Member | My advice is to have the oil and filter changed after the first 3,000 miles regardless of what the manufacturer says. I like to get all of the break in crap out of the engine. I've been driving for 40+ years and have never had a bad engine. Oil and filter changes are cheap insurance. |

It's likely to be 3 years for me as the car will not be used for my daily commute to work. I also noticed that the "emergency" container of oil left in the boot by the dealer was synthetic. Surely it should be mineral oil to begin with to bed everything in? Or am I out of date again? | |

| Usually the computer will tell you: it's usually 12 months or about 13000 miles, whichever comes first. The Engine oil spec is for a fully synthetic oil, e.g., Mobil 1.
