| I was just thinking... wouldn't it be nice if the smart top module can also haf auto start engine function? altho i am not sure how it would work... haha cause compustar and those alarm system needs an extra fob which i think it looks really weird with a benz fob... |

| This is not possible without leaving a key in the ignition and having a solenoid move it. A very smart car no way to trick it i am afraid

| You wont get aftermarket auto start on any of the modern cars now since they all use networks to carry the data no more old fashioned switched line from the ignition to the starter. Just too easy to hot-wire

| Dan, actually there is still a business in remote-start for modern cars, it's just harder and has more potential problems. In many types, you actually have to give up a key, that is installed under the dash, to basically "defeat" the key security. This means a remote start kit should be installed with a very thorough aftermarket security system. Even then, some of these, then require you to put another key into the ignition before driving off, otherwise it kills the engine, etc. But I don't know of any for the MB cars. |

| Yeah thats kinda what i meant with my first post having a key in the car but having read it back it does not seem very clear so thats my fault there sorry. For an MB it would be very simple if you where to move the ignition from the dash to underneath it and activate the key using a motor then the engine would start its not possible to do much else with the lock because its all flaps and sensors nothing really mechanical connecting to the key. This would let you auto-start but you would not be able to lock the doors with the key in the lock, you could place another ignition switch in the place of the moved one so you could insert a key when your ready to drive otherwise the power could be shut off. The real problem is as you correctly say most security system depend on the key for authorization and by leaving a key in the car you might as well leave it unlocked and sitting on the seat. Even systems like Keyless Go are unsafe as seen in the latest trend of sitting with a laptop recording the RF data transfer between the key and the car and then simply replaying it when you want to steal it.

| actually dan, you don't have to have the entire key there, and you don't have to move the ignition. they take apart the key, wire up only the RF code antennae to the ignition, bypass the key battery, and install a module to initiate the start sequence...no need to physically move anything at all. Regarding the Keyless go vulnerability, as i understand doesn't apply to the benz system, only lesser/older versions of wireless remotes, as the Keyless go has a revolving code (the system on my CLK got out of sync and i was locked out...dealer explanation). |
