| Hi all! This is mainly a thank you to the community. I just joined the forum but have been reading for awhile now. The first time I saw the SLK350 was in January 2005. It was during the Superbowl/Play-offs and a wordless commercial came on. A simple chase car shot which showed the SLK catchup, hold for a moment and then speed away. My jaw dropped, I was hooked. I am not really a car guy. I obsessed in high school over the Countach & Testarossa like every other teenage boy, but otherwise cars just weren't a top priority. I've always looked at my vehicles as a means to other entertainment. Case in point, my daily vehicle prior to the SLK was my 1997 Jeep Wrangler which provided hours of off road action. Also, the thought of spending upwards of $50k on a car rubs my fiscal conservative streak the wrong way. Case in point, the Wrangler's been paid off since 2003. However, something about this car trumped my "better judgment". First of all the car looks....drop dead....gorgeous. It is not like anything else on the road. It elicits stares and compliments, thankful valets and curiosity from other drivers (especially the police). This car has got mojo! I love driving a (soft top) convertible with the top down. Almost as much as a hate driving one with the top up. No matter how good that top is, eventually it smells, rattles and leaks air/water. The R171's convertible hardtop is not only very functional but quite unique. The power behind the R171 is great. I dismissed the 280 due to resale and the 55 because, frankly, I don't need all that power. Different strokes for different folks, but I just don't "race for pinks" much anymore. The SLK350 has more than enough to dust the obnoxious tail gater or my Grandma who is just trying to make the roads safer by driving 25 in a 55. The interior, to me, is fantastic. I got the red interior for it's uniqueness and had it loaded (7G auto, Heating, Lighting, Entertainment, Nav, Premium). Besides a few minor gripes like the cup holder, center storage and useless glove box this is a perfect car for me. I looked at the Cayman, 350Z and 330i besides the SLK. The 350Z wasn't comfy enough nor was it road unique and the 330i was too spartan. The Cayman was the only real competition in my mind, but the convertible hardtop was what made the cut final. I found the SLK a perfect mix of performance, clout and comfort. ------------ The purchase ------------ Using the nationwide pre-owned search on MBUSA.com I found a 2005 SLK350, iridium silver exterior, red leather interior, made in November 2004 with 15,000 miles on it. I negotiated over the phone with the dealership in Jersey, flew up, finalized it all and drove it back to Nashville. I paid $41,500 and extended the warranty out to the end of 2011 or 100K miles. ------------ What now? ------------ I have a few additions in mind. I want the Plexiglas windscreen, remote top module, stealth radar/laser, tint, sat radio & Bluetooth. But mainly, the car is pretty close to perfect as far as I am concerned. Thanks to you all (too numerous to mention) who helped me decide on features, trim, color, etc. |

I love the red leather interior, nothing better in my opinion. Add that to the iridium silver exterior with a great list of options. All I can say is "you done (did) good, you done (did) real good. Now back to that quote. Sometimes you just gotta say, "what the ..........."

| Welcome (this is the 4th or 5th today) another new member, this site is really getting around. Your SLK looks very familiar, might've been a member on benzworld.org that sold her SLK awhile back.
