yup, got my carpets and phone cradle for free with the 8% rebate on the car... after buying 3 cars from the same salesperson... MB is not big on freebies or good rebates...

Okay.... I ordered the pIII package, which is "pre-wired" for the phone, and I already have a BT puck which I'm going to swap from my E350.

Satellite radio is included (6mo subscription) with US sales.
I think mats are also included in the US sales.

Is there anything else? Does the car come with a rear wind difuser between the rollbars? I'm new to the whole "roadster" thing and I'm almost too anxios about the trip to keep myself from leaving something out of the deal.

Thanks for the input!

by difuser, you mean the windscreen I suppose ?

The car comes standard with a mesh one but MB has a lexan one in the option list. Much more nicer...

It isn't really necessary (almost no buffeting in the cabin) but you will be able with it to speak to your passenger or listen without having to shout or push the volume up (at higher speed).

Personally, I prefer the Piecha windscreen ( I'm going to order it in a month or two) which is in security glass and not in plastic (more prone to scratches)

The freebies depends on your relationship with the MB selling the car. You can tell them what you think about the 7% discount, that you want this or that thrown in, and BE PREPARED to walk out of the deal.

1. The 7% discount is from MB, your dealer will act as a middle man, helping you fill out paper work and such, they get a certain amount, I think it was $5K per EDP vehicle, IIRC so they do make money, A few members got $2,000 from the dealer on top of the 7% EDP discount. So everything they give you will cut into their amount. Congrats on your purchase, AMG cars weren't eligible for 7% discount when I ordered, looks like they'd changed that policy.

The NAV system will be a lifesaver, think of all the places you want to go and have the delivery person program it in. Your wife/gf will love you even more.

Search for euro delivery on both mbworld.org and benzworld.org before you go, there's plenty of tips, places to go, things to see threads.

Call up the EDP dept. 201-573-4715 to get a discount code for Lufthansa, it's buy an adult ticket and get the other for free, this is not something that is advertised by MB but it's valid.

Bring a good camera (I didn't have one at the time) and take lots of pics, you don't know when you'll be there again. And most importantly, relax and enjoy the beauty of Germany.

Default I got plans for the EDP trip

I ordered the car back in October '06 and planed to pick it up some time in April. Got lucky with March 29 delivery date, since the redesign blitzed any chances of a pickup any later than March.

I'm buying the new Canon HV10 hi-def video camera, and I plan on keeping it on and taking it with me everywhere. I'll post the vids on the Divx stage 6 site - they support high-def quality!!!

ABOUT MY TRIP:
I land in Munich, spend the night, then wake up and take the speed train to Stuttgart.

I get to Stuttgart, get my car, tour the factory and party!! I'm going to stay at their comped Graf Zepplin for the night. It's conveniently located next to the main train station, so getting to the hotel when I leave Munich is simple.

The next day I head over to Affalterbach (sp?) and tour the AMG plant. The guys at MB in NJ have even arranged for a meet with a surprise guest! I have also made plans to have lunch at their posh new restaurant that's been retro-fit into some historic barn at AMG... I'm not sure what it's called, but when they explained it, I couldn't say no. It sounded like a cool place to dine haute cuisine.

From AMG I head north. Stopping in Frankfurt. I then move on to Cologne, but not before I head to the Nurburgring (sp again?). I don't think I'll take my car on the track, but after watching Top Gear, I'd love to take a ride with Sabine Schmidt in the BMW M5 "Ring Taxi."

After Cologne I'm going to Amsterdam, then heading back into Germany and stopping in Bremen. I leave the car in Bremen and fly back to the US.

As it turns out, Bremen is where the SLK's are built and also where the cars leave Germany. So whereas the Black Forest Alps package heads south, I go right to where the car needs to be when it's deported. This should shave a week or so off the total shipping time. I'll let everyone know how it works out.

The local dealer here gave me tips about great side-roads, and even the corporate AMG people were pretty amazed at my travel decision to go North, they even filled me in on some tips for the Autobahn on the way to Frankfurt. There's one nice stretch for about 10 miles that is unrestricted, I was told that it's fun, but "just keep the revs below 4,200."

It's going to be an unforgettable trip, that's all I know.

If you like, come to Minden for a Beer and a good sausage. You are wasting just 15km on your trip between Amsterdam and Bremen and winning good fun. I´ll show you the more than 1200 years old town with cathedral, the cross of the channel and the river Weser, the Wilhelm monument and the lovely pubs.

in2dwww, please post some pics when you're across the pond. Good idea to meet up with Gero, perhaps get the OEM Lexan rear windscreen while you're there.

Default iPod Kit

By the way, I was able to get the dealer to add the iPod kit! It's hard to say no to me... even if you're a car dealer! I like their decision to include item, it really puts icing on the cake.

The morning after I paid for the car, Mercedes sent me a package with vouchers for the hotel, lunch at the MB factory, and taxi rides to the hotel and the factory. Everything was included in a nice leather portfolio, so that I remember to put all of the important documents in it and take it with me!

The purchase experience on this car is above and beyond any so far. This will be my third MB, and I think I know why many people only buy MB's with the European delivery program. The fact that this is an AMG makes it even better!

Nice one mate gonna be spending some time on my old stomping grounds.

AMG is always good fun the people there are really down to earth and will take good care of you i am sure.

Just want to run one thing past you the phone pre-wire and you mentioning the puck you know you need extra hardware before the phone will actually work yeah.

Your probably already know but i thought i had better let you know just in case.

Yeah... that brings me to a few questions:

1a. If I need the "completer" kit, can I pull it out of my '06 E350?

1b. The dealer told me that it will be ready to use, just plug my puck in and go... I didn't see the clip on a '07 350 with PIII, so I won't be surprised if the car isn't completely wired for the phone. Any suggestions for what I could do to get them to find out why my car doesn't have the phone? I mean, they can run the VIN, but the car is still on the factory floor. How could I piss and moan to get the car wired? The salesperson sat with the service advisor and they both told me that the car has "everything [i] need, just plug in your puck and you're set." I ordered it with PIII, so they are telling me that it's wired. Sure it is, but in a half-ass way. Where's the clip for the crade/BT puck?

2. Where can I get an unlocked GSM phone with bluetooth? AMG wants my phone # in Germany, and I don't have one... Plus, I have Cingular and the cell system in the US is pure bull****. My phone doesn't work in Australia, and when I bought a SIM chip at the airport, my phone wanted a PIN... but the phone was LOCKED. ****ing greedy corporate futher muckers. The US can lick my balls until I get a "GMS quad-band world cell phone" that works outside the US. I was almost going to buy a proper GSM world phone while in OZ, but I didn't want to sport $300 to find out that a real world phone doesn't work in the US... 'cause that's probably the case. Speaking of which, I'm going to start a new thread on world GSM phones.

Your going to need the core and completer kits for the car and unfortunately the kit from your E wont work.

Its not going to be plug and play for the phone as you already know so all your car has basically is the wiring thats all none of the control modules needed they all come with the 2 kits.

I don't think i know what you mean when you say "Any suggestions for what I could do to get them to find out why my car doesn't have the phone?" it does not have the phone because the built in phone option is separate from the pre-wire choice.

It works kinda like this if you pick the phone option you get the whole nine yards, if you select pre-wire you have the option of adding a phone when you feel like it using the 2 kits and if you don't pick either options and then decide you want a phone its big money hence the pre-wire being very popular.

Its only "half-ass" wired as you correctly say and unfortunately no amount of complaining to the dealer will be able to help just at the minute because your car has most probably already commenced production freezing all its options, the best thing you can hope for is the dealer agrees to fit the rest of the kit needed once you get the car back to the US

If i would of known about the european delivery program, i would of def done it!

MB sent me a leather wallet shortly after I purchased my car. Did everyone else get that, or was it from my dealer? Either way its a really nice leather wallet if a benz logo and words on it, i use it daily.

Anyone else get something like that?

If you have the time, go to Cologne along the Rhine river. It'll take longer, but it's well worth it. Also, if you get a chance, go to Hamburg. It's not far from Bremen. In my opinion, this is hands down the most beautiful of the larger cities in Germany.

You should call Cingular customer service and ask them to unlock it for you. They should do it, if you've been with them long enough. T-Mobile did it for me and it was just a matter of 2 minutes on the phone. Then, in Germany, you go to a phone shop and get a SIM card. It might be a challenge to get a phone number to give to AMG before you go. Most SIM card sellers have websites (e.g. www.blau.de, their web site seems to be German-language-only though), but I don't know what hurdles might be in the way for people ordering from abroad.
