Angry Dent in my door - i am not a happy bunny

Yesterday was the two week anniversary of taking delivery of my baby. It was also the day that she got hit by another inconsiderate driver while she was parked in a car park, the passanger of the car parked next to her must have knocked their car door into my driver's side door, now there's a small dent on the line of the car. There's a pic below, if you follow the line of the gravel in the reflection of the car, you'll see where the dent is (you'll also see the car is a bit dirty at the moment, but there's been a bit of rain here recently and she's getting a clean tonight ready for the weekend).

I'm so upset, she's only two weeks old. I knew it would happen sooner or later though

OUCH! Regardless how it happened, there's no excuse. You can only park away from the masses and PRAY!

I thought afterwards maybe i shouldn't have posted this. I thought it's like watching another man get kicked in the balls, it didn't happen to you but you feel the pain the other guy is going through!

alroumi> what's this state of the art technique? i'm going into the local mb garage later today to get them to switch the digital speedometer to mph, and i'm going to ask one of the guys there for an opinion, but i think i'm going to call a few people like this too:

Don't worry. You did the right thing by sharing your frustration. A forum can also be a support group in these cases! I am sorry for what happened, but from the piccie you posted, I am sure you can easily have the dent fixed and you will be unable to tell where it was. Try this website:

http://www.clean-image.co.uk/dents.htm

There is a list of dents on one of the pages. You compare your dent to those on the page and they will tell you whether they can fix it using a paintless method or not.

Good luck!

From your pic, it doesn't look too bad, any good dent doctor/remover/wizard could remove it w/o leaving a mark. It's unfortunate but I'm surprise we don't get more UK members posting about dents. The parking spaces are very small compared to the US.

I had just the same dent after some fool paint balled my car. don't worry about it. I have the dent insurance, tookit in and the guy rolled the door from the inside. Took about 20mins and its totally gone now. I do park miles from everyone if possible.. but even then people park next to it.

A support group indeed! Thanks a lot guys.

I did have a look around for a few paintless dent removal companies on the net, including the one that Zut posted, they all seem to do the same thing.

I just got back from the MB garage, they said their quote would be over £400 but they gave me the telephone number for a company that they recommend called a1 dents (link) so i think i'll try them first, but like i said they all do the same thing.

I had a proper look at the dent and it really isn't that bad, it just looks worse than it actually is as you can see it from far away, from close up though, it's tiny. Still, it's got to go!

Ynot, you're right, the parking spaces here in the uk are really bad. If i park the car in a bay on our local high street (Ruislip) the wheels stick out above the line of the bay (legally they could give me a parking ticket)! And parking next to another car in a car park is really worrying, the other car really has no room to open their door.

When I was younger I used to visit my grandparents in London every summer. My uncle used to drive me everywhere and parked in the tiniest places, I would tell him it's not big enough but he would squeeze in anyway. I could barely open the door and get out w/o touching someone else's car. It's amazing how he could get out as he's much bigger than I am, and after getting out he would tell me, there's plenty of space left.

Default Red traffic cones

Here's an idea: Keep a couple of the orange/red cones (preferably the ones with logos from the utility company or street paving companies are best) in the cargo/trunk area at all times. If you park in an area where they may be one vacant space to the left or right, place the cone in that spot and then park next to it.

Just make sure the security cameras are blocked when you place the cone(s).

I know you are joking but I did try this last winter in an indoor parking in Québec City. I took two cones that were left in a corner somewhere and I put them on each side of my car (that took some nerve!). When I came back a few hours later, there were cars where the cones were and the cones were nowhere to be found!

You guys are funny and brave, I would never do that in fear of someone thinking that I'm some type of arrogant b@stard and do more harm to the car. Kinda like those who double park (take up two spaces) in a parking lot, those cars are proned to getting keyed.
