Default Powerchip SLK280 ECU Upgrade

Has anyone had experience with Powerchip? ($840). Anyone know if it affects smog? They are waiting for CARB approval. They claim up to 8% performance increase. They have a discrete chip for my SLK280. They say it is undetectable by service technicians. I am worried about it affecting my warranty should something go wrong with the engine.
I have a remapped ECU in my other car (Nissan)(not powerchip) and it made a significant difference to the response so I'm thinking this is a worthwhile way to go for the money. A 5% increase would be a nice extra 10HP. I think Renntech offers a similar package but much more expensive.
Here is their site.........

interesting.....
unfortunately haven't got a clue about this.
If it is a simple plug and play chip (think they are known as piggy back chips) then you can simply just unplug them before a service.
If dealer does find them then more than liekly warranty is void.
I have given many thoghts to remapping my ecu with ART but changed my mind due to warranty. I have decided to just be content with the power i have.

Don't bother a piggy-back chip on the board will be undetectable by the techs if the car is in the shop but if you have an ECU fault then MB will take it apart and if they find the chip your warranty will be void.

Totally separate modules that sit in the line between the engine and the ECU can be removed before the car goes into the shop but the way they work it will be obvious to the people working on the car that one has been installed because all the adaptions will be out of whack.

New software maps are detectable by the DAS and will be automatically flashed away this will also void your warranty.

You are talking a few ponies at most here because the ECU is already very well tuned and has a wide range of adaptions this means most tricks that are played on it will be over-ridden by the software.

The modification made by MKG in Germany is more powerfull for a SLK 280 there are 2 options:
from 231hp to 260hp or
from 231hp to 280hp
but it's maybe be more expensive than purchasing directly a SLK 350.

I do think this preparation is official (as well as for Brabus) and accepted by MB but I'm not sure;

Default Powerchip SLK280 ECU Upgrade

Thanks everyone! Well, looks like I'm not going to get around the warranty. From what has been said it probably dosen't make any sense to do mods for the marginal increase in HP until the warranty is out. Oh well.....guess it's down to appearance mods, wheels tires etc.

I got the cost for the power kit 231 to 260 hp from MKB it's about 1950 € and you get from them a 2 years warranty (or 100 000 Km) for the engine.
