I've owned my SLK350 for around 18months but it's come the time to change. Various reasons but that's not the point of this thread!
I've asked various retailers, both MB and others, to value my vehicle. I also paid for a GLASS's valuation online and this produced a tradein value of £30,250 for an excellent condition vehicle. All the dealerships have agreed that my car is in almost 'as new' condition. The car is pristine. Anyway none of them have offered more than £26,500 as a tradein value. This, I feel, is way below what the car is worth. I know tradein values are low but GLASS's are supposed to be pretty accurate.
The spec of my car is as follows:
SLK350 Manual
Tellur Metallic
COMAND APS
Heated Seats
Electric Seats
Remote Roof Operation On Key
Folding Exterior Mirrors
Parktronic
Luxury Climate Control
Rain Sensing Wipers
Mileage: 7800
Reg: August 2005
Anyone have any advice on my best course of action. I could obviously try a private sale and this would probably produce a much better sale price. There is the inconvenience factor and selling at this time of the year to consider though.
Mine is a slk350 04 1Aug with 3700 miles on it MB offered me 30,000 with no discount off a CLS 320 cdi or 27,700 with discount pick the time to go in end of the month is best and shop around. Not sure but being a manual may not help your cause, mine is auto
Not in the UK, but this time of year is hard to sell any converts. If it's possible, wait until spring and sell it privately to get the most value of the vehicle. If you have to sell it now, you'll have to dump it for cheap unfortunatley that's just the way it is. Good luck.

Any advice?
I sympathise, I got very poor offers from MB for mine when I asked. Sell privately.
Out of curiosity, do you pay VAT tax on used cars?
The £30,250 sounds about right for a trade in. I'm guessing £6,000 depreciation. In the US, Kelly Blue book shows $35,900 for your car, about $10,000 depreciation as a trade in.
Thanks for replies. Much as I guessed that car dealers in general give very poor tradin values. It makes me more angry when I look at what cars are selling for on their forecourts! I have priced up several cars very similar in spec to mine, but with more mileage, being advertised for £33995. Now I know they have selling costs etc but I still think they make a fair bit out of those who tradein.
Looks like I'll be selling privately but will try and wait a few months.
Well after much research and discussion, I've decided to definetely sell privately.
I'll probably advertise in Autotrader at some stage over the next couple of months. I'd like to wait for spring when people will be more active in the convertible market.
For anyone interested, I'll be advertising the car for £30,995 so if anyone is interested in the spec above, please email me at b747@onetel.com. I have lots of photos and can provide whatever other information you need. I would also be willing to pay for the first service even though it's not due for another 8000 miles.
