Is anyone familiar with this? I found a letter laying around the house saying
"The work described in the Maintenance booklet that was included in your new Model Year 2006 vehicle may not reflect the most current requirements due to print timing. Please note that the automatic transmission fluid and filter must be changed ONCE at 3 years / 39,000 miles."
The car is now about 4.5 years old and has done 27,000 miles. I've been servicing it at the dealerships all along, but none has ever mentioned this or suggested a transmission fluid and filter change. Has anyone done this service on their car? Should I? I have to take it in for an oil change soon anyhow.
I got the MB Extended Limited Warranty which would cover any kind of transmission failure, but I wouldn't want them saying that it's my fault for not following the proper service procedures. But then again, I think most MB drivers rely on the car computer and dealership telling them what to do...

Yes you should.
DIY change of auto transmission fluid on the 7-speed transmission (722.9) is virtually impossible since special tools are required. This because the fluid is both removed and reinstalled via the drain hole. Calculation of amount required is a bit complicated as well.
Thanks, I'll call and schedule an appointment tomorrow. I wasn't planning on doing it myself. Sounds like it's gonna cost an arm and a leg, but oh well. Good advice on the new fluid, I'll ask and make sure they use that one.
Anyone else have this done at the dealership? Any reason they never mentioned it to me?
Its really based on mileage so yours would be due at the next service, thats why they said nothing. I would say it THE most important service schedule. Oh and get it done every 30k not just once, this was just to move unexpected failures out of the warranty period Im afraid.
