| My wife recently glanced her car off a curb avoiding a cat that ran in front of her. The steering wheel was about 45 degress of where it should be lined up , she damaged a rear tie rod and of course the rims. The back was damaged as she adjusted after glancing off the curb and slammed the back wheel inot the curb. After 3 weeks we got the car back and it just doent feel the same. Also the steering wheel is just fractionally off centered (less than 1/8 onch probably) which is annoying to say the least. The dealer says there is a little play which is normal and that they cant perfectly center the wheel. To me thats sounds like BS and Im wondering if there is possible additional damage done in the front steering they havent fixed. The car also has the 30 package which is very stiff and sensitive. Any ideas? |

| It sounds to me like there is more serious damage than has been fixed yes mate. The steering wheel can be adjusted slightly but only by one notch otherwise your turn signals wont function correctly but the wheel is really easy to get 100% centered because it has markers inside so i think the rack could be damaged. Its not unheard of in situations like this to have the whole steering system replaced i know you don't want to hear that but its true a lot of force is put into the system that it is not designed to deal with and things go pear shaped very fast. As i say i would expect damage to the steering rack itself here.

| OK then i would start shotgunning the parts that could be affected so replace a few candidates and drive the car if no change move onto the next possible culprits and so on. Things like this are hard to fix because the damage might be internal to parts and not visible to the eye and how a car feels is not detectable to a tech who drives it for like 10 minutes, only the owner can say how it feels because they are the ones who drive it on a day to day basis and make sure they know that you will be the judge of how well it drives not them Where i work we take cars for quick test drives to make sure there are no obvious things that jump out at us then we offer the owner a drive and they normally pick up any feelings that are not right because they have the experience of the car and know exactly how it should respond to commands

| I'm particularly fond of cats and SLKs. I hope I never have to decide.
