IIRC, the responses were mainly from SLK owners in the US.

If your car starts fine in cold weather, I wouldn't be in any hurry to go for the ECU update. Someone did and his car wouldn't start. Here's a link: http://www.benzworld.org/forums/r171...-starting.html I don't know if it's related to the ECU update. As DansSLK stated, the ECU update mainly allows for a leaner mix at startup in cold weather.

| Was off today and took my SLK for the reflashed and my sensor for the coolant and washer fluid needed to be replace. I forgot to turn my roof module off, the service dept had a very difficult time reflashing my ECU. After two hours I asked them for an update, they said they need more time for further investigation. I kinda suspect it might be the roof module so I told the service lady I needed something from my car which I didn't, went there and turn off the roof module and took my sunglasses from the car. It was taking too long so they offer me a loaner, an hour later they called and said the reflashed finally worked. I'm not sure if this is coincidence or the roof module did cause it not to flash. So a little bit of a warning, turn off the roof module before you take it in for service, I forgot until they told me they had problems with the reflashed. Everything worked, they had my car the whole day, will pick it up yesterday. I had a C280 4matic as a loaner, it's a nice small sedan, it's alot more solid and handles better than I thought. thumbs up for the CVM, even when it wasn't turned off, they couldn't detect it, Dan do you know if the CVM would cause it not to reflashed? That's my guess.

I think where the importance of shutting it off really comes into play is situations like you experienced because the module could interfere with the messages being sent along the bus and stop things like coding from working properly i guess its a good thing if you don't want people doing stuff to your car say after a re-map or something as it looks like the module blocks it in fact i would put money on the fact. Coding is really simple you just push the file along the network and then the control unit being flashed loads it up so i cant think of anything else it would be apart from the battery that has to be kept about 12V to allow it to work properly i am actually quite impressed with the module as i say if you had a re-map it would help you no end a bit of an insurance policy. Anyways glad it went OK for you in the end mate i cant quite see why it took them an hour maybe they did not go back to work on it right away or something but i guess since your not paying for it it's not a problem it does wind me up when they charge you for not doing anything i remember with my old SL it was in for a new bumper because me being stupid tapped it into a bollard only slight damage to the bumper but decided to get it replaced as i am not a fan of filler and i asked about 1:30ish when it was going to be ready and the lady said the tech was on lunch but its real funny when i got the bill his lunch was on me thats when i totally stopped using dealers and started doing everything at the shop it means i sometimes have to wait longer for a free bay but its worth it.

| Glad it all went OK and the sensors got fixed also. With the pedal yeah the C is real light the new SW should only allow for a richer mixture at startup so will be invisible once warm if your still feeling it in a few days take it back and make sure it has been coded with the correct version. Things is with the computers in these unlike your desktop PC they don't shout at you if you try and downgrade software they just happily accept don't know why a simple warning would make a huge difference.

| Put mine in the shop yesterday at 4:30 PM and picked it up today at 4:30 PM. They flashed the ECU for the upgrade and the tranny for hard shifts and cleaned & lubed the roof seals - all were done according to the TSBs. So far so good.
