What type blank DVD is preferred; is Nero OK to use?
I have prolly 3 GB of music in my very limited music library (18 folders, folder names has spaces and each folder has less than 50 mp3 music files) and tried burning them unto my son's left-over blank DVD-R, single sided, 4.7 GB, using NeroStartSmart software (picked DVD in menu, chose audio, then mp3). This is my first attempt at burning mp3 files unto DVD media for use on the R171 COMAND head unit (I'm slow ). It burnt fine unto the DVD-R, however the 2008 US spec COMAND NTG2.0 cannot read it and ejects the DVD each time. I do not have the glove-box-space occupying 6 CD changer.
What am I doing wrong? The burnt DVD-R plays back fine on the desktop PC. COMAND plays mp3 burnt on CD-R well.
Should I get a different DVD blank? If so which single layer DVD? Thank you in advance for any info and suggestions.

Taiyo-Yuden's are generally the best all around brand for CD/DVD.
Nero is great! I use it all the time. But I think you're burning it wrong. Try burning it as a DVD data disc instead. Reason being, since the songs are already in MP3 format, you do not need to convert it. Oh yeah, to be safe, use the slowest burn speed you can tolerate, usually 2x or 4x.
Are we sure the COMMAND will play these DVDs at all?

there shouldnt be a problem with burning with nero
maybe command headunit only plays DVD+R instead of DVD-R?

Thank you for the replies. Reading the COMAND Operator's Manual, it only states that "in MP3 mode COMAND can read CD-R and CD-RW CDs".
"Problems may be encountered during playback of user-written CDs with a storage capacity of more than 700 MB. These CDs do not meet valid standards as of this printing."
"COMAND does not support ID3 tags."
There is no mention of MP3 in user-written DVDs. DVDs are mentioned in the manual only as it relates to navigation.
I will try to burn the DVD as a data disc in the next few days and see what happens. My guess is the single slot on the COMAND head unit does not recognize MP3 in user-written DVDs, only MP3 CDs.
I thought I read somewhere in this forum that members were able to burn MP3 unto dual layer DVDs and use it in the COMAND NTG2.0 head unit (Brian_74, garylight ?)

Data - eg don't convert the files. Same results here using CompUSA no-name DVD-R's and Nero.
Cool. I will try to burn as data on DVD-R tonight, burn rate at 2x, and report back.

Hey Eddy, i use Nero and burn the mp3s as Data DVDs, both single and dual layer discs play fine. I prefer Memorex Discs. I think i'm using DVD-R.
I tried last night. Nero on TDK DVD-R, chose DVD, then data, burnt at 2x speed as data. Didn't work
I did remove from each folder the JPEG and .ini and left only the songname.mp3 files in each folder. COMAND headunit rejects the DVD-R recorded as data. Should I just burn the music as is, with the other stuff in the folders?

Eddy, try burning just a few (say about 20-30) MP3 files, onto a DVD, without any folders etc., and see if that works. If it does, then just build up from there, and see what the limiting factor appears to be.

Thanks Woolly. Will try again tonight after work and report back.

Check the standard that Nero uses when it burns the data DVD- I haven't tested it, but have a hunch that UDF doesn't work in Command.
Try using ISO 9660 instead. You may also use ISO 9660 + Joliet.
I'll try burning a UDF disc this week, and report back.
How do I check this on Nero?

It should be somewhere under the options or advanced settings for the project. It will be something called "file system" or similar. Make sure you also choose "single session write" (i.e. the disk is finalized and cannot be written to again)

I did choose single session, or more accurately unchecked the multisession. I'll check on the File System. Thanks for all the info (am learning at the same time)

No go on third attempt. I couldn't find the file system, so I can't tell if it's using the ISO 9660, it did state it will look for Joliet.
What version Nero software are you guys using? I have an old version 6.3.0.3.
Should I go ahead and download a free version of Nero 9 (from Nero 9 Ultra.com)?
