Just thought I would share some information between dealers, independents and others.
Auto Tranny Fuild change is a big one for our 06 SLK 350 I have heard 2 different answers and seen other posts on here. I have seen a couple posts that suggest 45,000 miles or so, change your tranny fuild, Dealer told me 100,000 miles and the independent (Certified MB Techs) said they actually got back from training recently and MB said don't touch it, lifetime. We all know that world lifetime. Many other auto manufactures also claim lifetime. It now has 42,000 miles and shifts perfectly. If it aint broke don't fix it. Maybe worry about it at 100,000 miles.
Brake Fuild and Coolant changes, once every 3 years or about 35,000 - 45,000 miles depending upon driving habits.
The Independent shop will do a Service C for $149.95 versus my local dealer at $289.95. They will also do a complete review of the car and find any items that would be covered under warranty (still covered) so I can take to the dealer to have fixed. Thats part of there service. I know of 1 such item, my trunk struts don't keep the trunk up anymore, falls on your head, ouch! This MB Independent has many yellowpages.com reviews averaging a 4.5 out of 5 stars, so I think I am headed that way.
I asked the question/their opinion: any problems or things to worry about that stand out. They said that car (engine/tranny has been a rock solid). Only thing is the Convertible Hard Top, keep it lubed. They said 100% silcone is fine with a soft pad and rub it along all the moving parts.
Again just sharing info.
We love our SLK350. Whether your traveling at 45 or 105 it is a dream to drive. :burnout:
