Default SLK 10th year special edition

Anyone knows anything about the 10th year special edition of the SLK? Although I am not planning to buy a new SLK at this point , I am intrigued by this new edition. The car was showcased at the Paris Auto Show and it should be available next January. For those of us who speak German, there is an article about this car at this Web address:

You pervert!

I think the car is basically the same. It simply has some deluxe features. The colour (allanite grey) is very similar to Iridium. The rear flashers are smoked (like the SLK55AMG). I know there are other nice things but my German is much too rusty! The production starts in January but I don't know whether the car will be available in North America or not.

Special model "edition 10": SLK class for special requirements

The Showcar "edition 10", with which Mercedes Benz on that celebrated Paris automobile salon the ten-year anniversary of the SLK class, is available starting from January 2007. The special model is characterised by a singular color design and choice of materials in the Interieur.

The SLK class came before exactly ten years for the first time on the market and was promoted at first attempt to the public favourite. On the occasion of this anniversary Mercedes Benz presented in September 2006 on the automobile salon in Paris a Showcar, which is manufactured now in an exclusive special series.

With the new matte-grey Metalliclackierung "Allanitgrau Magno" point the Mercedes designers out a trend for the future color design. It is available in limited number of items for 350 vehicles. The exclusive matte lacquer finish is when desired available just like the colours Obsidianschwarz Metallic, Iridiumsilber Metallic. The special model in black is offered in series.

The "edition 10" sets accents also by light alloy wheels in the dark grey high polish lacquer finish "chrome shadow", by black-silver plaques with the Mercedes star revalued the worth. The rims in the ten-spoke Design carry broad tires of the sizes of 225/45 R 17 (in front) and 245/40 R 17 (in the back). Likewise darkly dyed tail lamps and engraved fender plaques mark the sports car by the label "EditI0n".

In the Interieur the two passengers are spoiled by a selection of fine materials. The seats, which are armrest in the center console as well as the switching and/or mechanism selector lever covered with black leather. The "EditI0n"-Logo ziert both backrests. Below the central surfaces in the upholstered seats and extend silbernfarbene edition mats, which the perforated leather dezent, lean but make quite impressively visible.

This sporty-elegant black silver contrast is strengthened by the silver-colored ziernaehte of the SLK Sportsitze. The sky of the Variodachs and the internal frame parts of the back window appear in black. Beside the leather upholstery and the 17-Zoll-Leichtmetallfelgen contain the standard of the special model in addition seat heating and Velour floor mats with black edge and eingesticktem "EditI0n"-Logo.

A further characteristic is the new matte-painted metal fabric, which ziert the range above the glove compartment. For the driver's side the Mercedes designers selected two black Zierstaebe. Speedometers and tachometers underline the sporty character of the SLK class by red skalenringe.

The special model "edition 10" is available as SLK 200 COMPRESSOR with 120 kW/163 HP or as SLK 280 with that 170 kW/231 HP strong six cylinder engine or as SLK 350 with 200 kW/272 HP.

The prices (ex factory, inclusive. 19% VAT.) in the overview:

* SLK 200 COMPRESSOR "edition 10": 37.734,90 euro
* SLK 280 "edition 10": 42.911,40 euro
* SLK 350 "edition 10": 47.671,40 euro

The comfort systems particularly developed for the SLK class are available when desired also for the anniversary special model. In addition belong for example the world-wide singular head space heating AIRSCARF, the climatic mechanism THERMOTRONIC or the COMAND system with European-wide navigation.

Type of success and trendsetter for open automobiles

The Mercedes Benz SLK class is the world-wide most successful model of this market segment. With the steel Variodach, which combines the advantages of a firm Hardtops with those of a folding deck, the sports car was 1996 trendsetters of a new generation of open automobiles. Ten years after their world premiere in the SLK took over many car manufacturers this innovative roof technology for their Cabriolets and roadster.

The new SLK class, which appeared in March 2004, stresses its sporty character still more clearly and sets again with trailblazing technology trend. Beside a further developed Variodach, which opens still faster and less place in the trunk stressed, the new head space heating celebrated AIRSCARF world premiere in the Mercedes sports car. It works like an invisible scarf, which warms head, neck and neck. Thus the SLK class guarantees open driving fun also in the cold season: Owing to AIRSCARF SLK owners can drive longer and more frequently openly.

With a portion of on the average 30 per cent the SLK class is world market leader. In Germany and other countries of Western Europe approximately each second newly certified sports car of this fahrzeugklasse carries the contraction SLK. Altogether Mercedes Benz produced approximately 465,000 SLK models since 1996 so far.

Zierteile above Hanschuhfach in carbon optics?!?!?! Are you sure you did not use Babblefish!? LOL

Actually, I too tried Babelfish and a few other on-line translators before I started this thread but technical texts such as this one are hardly "computer-translatable" unfortunately...

From what I can see, you are probably right. IMHO, some members of this forums have far more spectacular cars. That's why I was hoping someone who is fluent in German (or someone who has heard about that special edition) could give us more info.

Hey, don't forget you get an "Edition" tag on the fenders and the seat back.

Sheesh. Doesn't sound like they consider the 10th year very special

But its that darn silver again. I would have hoped something a little more eye catching for a 10 year anniversary. That's just me though.

I agree. Although the allanite grey is very nice, it is rather close to the existing silver-like colours. IMHO, they should have issued a special gold edition closer to Havanna.

I don't understand the appeal of a "matte lacquer" paint finish. I sincerely hope that this type of finish does not become the norm. It might be great for military vehicles, or in applications where glare would be a problem. I don't think that it adds anything to the appearance of a good-looking automobile. The whole idea behind two-stage paint technology is to provide a shiny but also durable paint finish. The matte finish looks pre-oxidized, in my opinion. Is this similar to pre-worn washed-out denims? Dinoman

Orange is cool! Coral, burnt orange, tangerine or peach would be very nice. I should gladly drive an orange SLK or even a pink one, for that matter!

ya it doesnt seem like anything to get riled up about. Except the extra taggin, which you could just get anyway. haha have more mis tags care now yay!!! . We shall see if they add anything. I thought at least the special edition would have some engine work done to it. to make it like 310bhp or something, so its a step up from a stock 350, but doesnt fringe on people buying the 55.
