2005 SLK 350 - OEM options

Hi,

I'm in the midst of purchasing an SLK 350. I have a few questions re: factory options package.

I stumbled on this site for factory options. Is this correct?
http://www.motortrend.com/cars/2005/...ons/index.html

1) I was mainly wondering if there were OEM Xenon headlights.

The car I'm looking at has headlight washers.. and by looking at this, all I see the headlight washers are available only with the Xenon light package.

2) is this true? Power seats is an option? The base car only comes with manual seats? Are they height adjustable at least?

Hey boomie - take a few minutes to update your profile with your location - option packages vary greatly between markets.

Headlight washers are an option without out BiX, but are required with BiX. Also, shoot me the VIN number of the car you are looking for and I'll pull the datacard.

Here you go Boomie - looks like a very nice, very well optioned car. Bix, Lighting package, Sound Package (Harmon Kardon), COMAND, Airscarf, etc.

That's amazing to me - I've never see a US spec SLK without power seats - especially one this nicely optioned! You would expect to see :

242 FRONT SEAT RH ELECTRIC ADJUSTABLE WITH MEMORY
275 MEMORY PACKAGE (DRIVER SEAT, STRG. COL., MIRRO

Datasheets are normally spot on, but errors do happen. I'd really be suprised that this car does not have electric seats. As much as I use mine, I don't think I'd want to be without on the drivers side for sure...

That said, if this is the only thing missing on the car, I suspect Adam would make you a good deal on electric adjustable seat bases! :-)

EDITED : Never driven an SLK without power seats. My C class does not have power seats, and they are quite adjustable (front/back, up/down, recline, and some sort of "tilt" for the seat bottom itself.)

Thanks for the quick replies. I'm getting close to the 15 posts to be able to PM.

Hmm.. Adam.. who's that and what does he do?

I want it spot on OEM.

Can I just buy a new seat and do a swap?

:-) Go say "Hello" to new joiners, you'll be over the limit quickly.

"Adam" is Adamantium on the forum - search the DIY thread. He's managed to retrofit about 10 things that are supposed to be impossible, so at the moment, he's setting the bar.

I suspect that retrofitting the seats would require a control module and a wiring loom. We've got good sources for both, so very doable.

Finding the control module from eBay rather than paying full price from the dealer (same with seats...) is probably the main thing to try and accomplish. I'll look tonight and see if I can find a part number or if it's just part of the front SAM. I'm almost 100% sure it's a separate module...

Hi,

I'm Adam and I am a patent attorney, but am guessing that answer is not what you were looking for.

It won't be plug and play, mostly because there are no plugs there.

You'll have looms for the AirScarf, heated seat and SRS system but will be missing the main plug that contols the power seats.

For that you'll need to buy some seats, the seat control module (john reckons that will give you memory mirrors and steering wheel position too) and a wiring loom.

I'd reckon I could source the loom and module for about $250 all in.

Then you just need the seats.

I saw some ripped AMG seats that needed a leather panel replaced, on ebay for $600. They only lacked air scarf, but you could shift that across from your existing seats with little issue.

Norm,

am so not talented when it comes to this stuff, the fact is these are parts that were intended to be fitted by MB. So it's not like you need to be clever to fit them. The skill is in sourcing the right bits, that's it.

Once you've got them, with this car at least you only seem to need torx drivers and you are there!

hell no. it's not been done yet.

there are some red leather power seats on ebay UK.

Not sure how much international shipping would be. They are both electric and both heated with airscarf, so would be nearly all you'd need.

I can look into finding the module you need and then with any luck it can be sorted easily.

You'll need the custom loom, but it won't be much, then its just a case of plugging it in and giving it power.

Do you have power mirrors and a power steering wheel adjustment?

My 2005 350 is similarly equipped, and without power seats (I think that the power seats were an extra option in the '05 and became part of a package in '06) - the manual seats do have height adjustment (and well as front/back and tilt). Pretty basic, but work just fine for me.

John, can you acquire datasheets for only US cars or can you get them irrespective. I just bought a used R171 and wanted to know the exact specs, I am in Australia.
