Thumbs down HELP!!! "Premium" Sunvisor Frozen in Extended Position.

While driving to work this morning in bright sun (after the torrential rains of the last few days in Western New York), I swivelled my sunvisor, and then extended it (for maximum SPF protection! LOL!). As I approached the parking garage, while sitting at a red light, I attempted to push the visor back to its normal length, so that I could snap it into the bracket on the windshield header. It refused to retract, and I can't put it back in the closed position. Before I contemplate a call to the dealer: Has anyone experienced this before? If so, were you able to remedy the problem yourself? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Dinoman

Went down to the parking garage and, after some judicious wrestling with the sunvisor, it retracted. It has quite a bit of resistance, but at least it works. Dinoman

don't you just hate it when something like this happens, and you sit there wrestling with the part. Hasn't happened to me, but then again i only lowered the sunvisor 2 times. First at the dealer for pickup.

Glad you worked it out though

Thumbs up

Before I got it to work properly, while sitting in the driver's seat, I tried to open and extend the passenger's visor. Maybe it was just the awkwardness of my seating position, but it didn't want to extend. I didn't want to break it (which, with my luck, would have probably happened!). After I got the left visor to work, I closed them both, and went back up to my office, grateful that I am spared one or two (if a part were needed) trips to the dealer. I guess it doesn't take much to make my day lately! Dinoman p.s.: Thanks, Noregret, for your concern. d

Perhaps spray a small amount of silicone lubricant to the affected area so it won't happen again.

etyu, you beat me to it... that might just fix it.

I find it interesting that certain "features" on our cars are important to some and others think they are useless, and with each new feature installed there is always the bunch that can't live without it, and others who wouldn't mind removing it and selling

Wear shades? I've never really used the visor in the down position and never knew it extended until someone mentioned it was an optional extra.

Great job in figuring it out Dinoman.

My SLK 320 did not have a swiveling visor. And that used to irritate me. My morning drive was toward the sun and the return at the end of the work day was of course also toward the sun. And the road takes a few turns such that it would have been really good to swivel that visor.

Of course, even better would be 2 visors like my 95 Ford Windstar had. One could be swiveled to the side leaving the other in place. This combination was perfect for those bright morning drives to work. Blocking that blinding sun at left and straight ahead.

I live in the Pacific Northwest. We never have sunshine here. Seriously. It's raining right now, actually.

Anyway, how do you extend the visor? I've been trying to figure that out.

At the mirror end of the visor is an attaching clip that holds that end to the window frame. With a slight tug on that end, it pulls away from the clip. Turn it parallel to the window and then pull on the end and it extends on the rod that holds it.

You do not want to 'lube' any part of the visor. I made that mistake on my previous SLK and it made the visor very loose and floppy. It needs a certain amount of friction to retain its position especially when extended.
