Temperature Sensor

Anyone know where the ambient temperature sensor is located on the SLK 350 (2007).

The other day the display was reading 154f while driving. (It gets hot out here but 154?)
I think it is being influenced by engine heat.
If I can find where it is mounted I would consider relocating it.

Thanks

For non-AMG, IIRC, it's near the left side (driver side) fog lamp, look at the plastic grille that holds the fog lamp. There's a hole there where a black tapered probe (about 2.5 cm or 1 inch) sticks out.

It's known to come off the housing and give weird temps. If it's under warranty, MB should reattach it for free.

From UK-C200 in a thread about removing bumper cover:

Next, there are two nuts that are recessed in the front foglight housing. Remove these carefully, as they tend to fall into the housing. (red circles, outside temperature sensor is in the yellow circle)

;-) Welcome from London! It's pretty easy to poke the temperature sensor back in if it's fallen out, but you do have to remove either the drivers side fender well cover or the bottom front engine cover to get to it.

I think personally that turning the wheel to the stops to give yourself a bit of room makes the fender well removal the easiest - it's hard to remove the bottom cover without jacking the car up.

If the car is under warranty, go have a free cup o' coffee while the techs put it on a lift any fix it in 10 minutes!

Good job piperkid, saves me from typing:

The temp probe migh have fallen loose and hanging near the radiator and it must stay in its intended position. search the forum and you will find more info on how it works with the maf and engine.
