| Howdy strangers, long time no post .... If only I didn't have to work so much to maintain the lifestyle.... Anyway, I made myself a large MP3 music DVD (with 23 folders, 523 files, 4Gb - most are 320Kbps MP3). Works well and sounds great .... the only thing I've noticed is that the command system seems to struggle with the data volume. It slows down quite a lot and even skipping to the next track can take 20 seconds. Anyone else noticed that? - Is it the data rate? (320Kbps) - the size of the disk? (4Gb) - or the total number of files? (523)? Personally I'd guess its taking time to look up and index the folders and files each time. |

Hi, I have a full 4.3 giga DVD and my Comand works perfectly (touch wood). very fast. I made the DVD using NERO software and RW- DVDs. Only once I had trouble with the the hardware response time and the DVD turned out to be scratched. I have had no trouble since I replaced it. ciao P

| You have to put it in the console (like a DVD). I don't really watch Movie DVDs in the car much, so I keep a few MP3 DVDs instead. IE. 6 CDs in the changer in the glovebox. 1 MP3-DVD in the command console (a dozen or so CDs worthP 1 Nav DVD in the DVD reader located in the boot (trunk) |

| Mine wont play audio DVD's at all it just has a fit and grinds to a halt i checked and it stored no faults and everything is running the latest software bar one unit and thats only a single version behind. The head units are just really sensitive and can be real awkward things to get working properly

| I tried some software a while ago and i dropped 700 songs in one directory (which I previously thought slowed it down) I ran a little app that scrubbed the ID3 tags and simplified the names. the dvd plays great. when I thought it would lock the unit up. but alas its hard to find anything. Maybe its all the folders that slow it down? I need to buy the ipod lead, is this something most dealers will stock or is it specific to the slk?

| I will try simplifying the setup mate i had got it so that it was an album an artist but maybe dumming it up will help it lower the dvd to the intelligence level of the command. What ipod lead the one that connects to the aux in?

| I posted this last year and it might answer some of your questions: http://www.benzworld.org/forums/audi...rning-how.html Right up front, I can say that burning at 320 most definitely does slow down the COMAND's response sometimes causing it to seemingly "time out" and go to the next song. I also found that removing the ID3 tags speeds things up a bit (again, take a look at the above posted link). Hope it helps. |

| Excellent summary gmabli!! Thanks. I might try stripping the ID3 tags and see if that helps. I'd prefer to keep at 320K if possible for the better sound quality (which can be a little difficult to hear the difference in the car, but I can on my home system). I use my Cambridge Audio Music Server http://www.cambridgeaudio.com/categories.php?CID=17 to rip and store my MP3s. |

| Unless you're ripping MP3s from the original studio sound track (I'm guessing you're not), a CD's quality is, at best, 256kbps. Anything above this you're wasting disc space. Now, I know you guys who pride yourselves on being audiophiles are going to try and call me on this. However, it's simple digital basics. Your copy is never going to be better than the original no matter how many db processors you run it through...sorry. BTW...kinda' ...I just bought a Toshiba Gigabeat MES30V ($210.95 shipped from Buydig.com). This thing is AWESOME!!! I run it through my factory Beckman/MB/Bose system. I'll never go back to conventional CDs and the changer.

| a regular CD, bought in a shop is about the same quality as a 192 kbps rip. In order to have a best spectrum (like a vinyl), your rips must be over 300 kbps (320). You won't hear what is above and below (in frequencies) but you will able to feel it. Only dogs ear the difference. 256 is sort the middle of the road option... best sound quality for the least space The source is also very important... on vinyl, a funk record can have a slight different sound depending where it was made. Let's take a Parliament... in order of sound quality, it goes american, british, german, french made. The french one being of the least sound quality. Like in any copy job, the source is of the upmost importance Last edited by FPF422; 11-04-2006 at 07:00 AM. |

| Hi Guys, I would love to figure out how to use DVD's vs. all the cd's. I use I tunes for the burn but a warning comes up saying it will only burn the DVD as a data disc. I did that it wont work in either the main disc player or the one in the glove box. It says "unrecognized disc" in the command. I used a minus R disc. Any help would be appreciated. |

Anyway, I recommend you use Nero. Never had any problems with it and I use DVD+R which seems to work better for.... everything (movies, music, games,...) You're glove box player is only for CD and won't wortk with a DVD
