How to refill Hydraulic Pump Hard Top

Hello,

Just got a 2000 SLK 230 and I need to fill up the Hydraulic pump for the hardtop. I've read that I need to remove the pump in order to fill her up but this seems a little complicated. Is there any plug in the pump that is used to fill her up? I see several TORX screws and I don't know if any of them is to be used to refill the pump. Thanks

The screw on top of the pump is for the refill, the one on the side is to releave the preasure when you open the top manualy. There is a refill line on the side as well.

Thanks for the reply. The top torx grey screw is the only screw I see. There is another one next to the gold torx. The gold being the one used to lower or raise manually. Where do I have to releave pressure? Thanks

Hi
Should be a screw on top of the pump - upper right side.
It should fit a hex/allen/unbrako(dunno what you call it) key size 5.
Oil level should be between min and max.
After filling, tighten screw with 8NM torque

EDIT: If you look down through the "brush", you'll see the screw.

Just curious, I would think that this should be a "closed system" where the fluid level ought to remain constant. Under what conditions would you need to add fluid to the pump? Was there a leak or bad seal or something that was replaced first?

Thanks. That is the correct screw. Hard time to refill it. Found that I have one of the hard top cylinders leaking big time. Have a one month warranty so they will fix it for me on Monday.

Some other info: Under normal circumstances you shouldn't need to refill the hydraulic fluid in the pump unless you have a leak. Due that I just bought the car and the pump looked so new, I thought that maybe it had been exchanged and it needed more fluid due that the system had pulled it all in (Bleed).

Easy way to access filler hole?

Looks like easy access to the refill hole on top IF one would take the plastic panel(s) inside the trunk off. Has anyone had experience doing it that way? How difficult is it to remove the panel(s)?

Removing panes

Panels will take approx. 1 hour to remove. Remember to open the trunk on both ends; otherwise it looks impossible.
