muscle sound

I heard a Mustang yesterday and was very impressed witht the powerful sound of it.

Is it possible to get that deep rumble sound out of a stock 4 cyclinder motor or will it always end up sounding like a honda ricer bumble bee going down the road?

I'm not looking for loud, Just a deep sound instead of the tin sound it now makes.

If you want to keep it Mercedes Benz you may want to look at AMG Rear silencers (mufflers)
Dual exhaust tips

AMG exhausts rumble but they are not noisy like the Mustang.

I don't know if a 55 muffler will fit but you can get the following from MB

AMG exhaust system, oval 4 pipe
SLK200K P/N B6 603 2008
SLK280 P/N B6 603 2009
SLK350 P/N B6 603 2009

thanks for the reply..... something to think about.

Have you heard about the 2007 sport package for the 280 and 350. It has a high performance air filter for a more throaty sound. I'll check if my dealer has this. See the link...

Can a 4 cylinder stock motor be made to sound more like a v-8 with just a muffler change?

Or can anyone suggest a muffler that they have put on thier car to achieve this result.

I agree...this is R170 country...

......But.....I gutted my primary cats and it deepened the tone tremendously.

I have yet to get my license switched over to Texas yet so I don't know for sure to be honest.

Kleemann assured me that it WILL pass inspection as they knew that I was moving to Texas and eventually need to get my license and plates switched over.

I'll let you know for sure when I actually get the inspection done.

I'm guessing if your check engine light is not on, then the state inspection machine will not be able to tell about the mod.

Some cars they put a bar up your tail pipe to measure exaust but again, I do not see why, cat or no cat, that would make a difference.

I do not think I will go that route just because cats are so expensive to replace in case I got caught.

Woho my first post

I have a BRUBUS exhaust on my 320 and it sound very nice, nice and quiet untill it gets to 2000rpm then you hear it

ill see if i can record it for you

Strange how this thread moved into R171 55's, 350s, and 380's ??

I have a Supersprint on the end of my 1998 R170 230. It is reasonable deep and gets quite loud as you stick into it.
A 4 cyl will NEVER sound like a V8.

u can get amg style mufflers for 171 from piecha. They have 2 models I believe. Just saw someone asked so I figured i would chime in.
