Hey Guys/Gals! I found this thread at Benzworld and felt it to be of importance to share. Myself and some others, unfortunately, did not get to take advantage of this, but some of you may be able to.
I posted this here in the R170 area because I'm not aware of this being a problem with the R171s.
It seems some of the rear view mirrors that are "leaking" can be replaced by the manufacturer (not MB, but another distributor, see thread) at no charge. So read the thread and see if this could be beneficial to you.

I was able to take advantage of this and it's great! The dealer wouldn't support the issues as it is an out-of-warranty problem for me, but the mirror OEM did. If you have this problem, give them a call!
Andy
Thought I'd let you guys know the "replacement" I bought off ebay somehow contracted the lava lamp sickness. So...that being the case, I contacted these nice folks, Dani (female), in particular, and had a replacement sent to me here in Germany. Now...IF ONLY MY CAR WOULD GET HERE!!!!

I can tell you, Dani (in the link to Benzworld) really took
care of the problem for me. I called one day, then emailed her a pic. then the next day she had shipped my mirror.
I have a 2000 SLK230 with 100240 miles. The inside rearview started leaking yesterday. It with a big bubble in the middle of the mirror. Today the bubble is gone but there is a general waviness. The a small (BB sized) drip of black goo appeared at the bottom of the frame. There seems to be a small hole there.
Someone has posted pictures of the mirror replacement. I have to make this last post in order to get access.
BTW, I replaced the left outside mirror a couple of years ago with a non-electric one from the dealer. Just as good and much cheaper. If I can find one, I'll replace the inside mirror with a non-electric.
Our 2001 SLK320, which I just purchased had a bad auto dimming (lava look) mirror. The original manufacturer will not replace the mirror any longer, but gave me information to get a replacement mirror from SYBESMA'S ELECTRONICS for $75.00 + shipping, which came to less than $100.00 total. Call Stacy (Customer Service Rep.) 800 456-4265. They will e-mail you a request form, which you fill out, plus take pictures of your old mirror, (need to remove old mirror for front/back/wiring photos), e-mail them back and you will have your new mirror in less than 10 days. Ship your old mirror back in the same packing box, which has a pre-paid shipping label.
