Default Question about the supercharger

Hey well I just joined up here after learning about this site from a friend. Anyways I wanted to ask, I've seen videos online of many SLK230's where the supercharger sounds like a real supercharger. On my car and others though I have noticed that they are very quiet. Long story short though, I heard that there is a plastic baffle that once removed gives you that famous supercharger noise on the SLK230. So my question is to everyone, where in the world is this plastic baffle so that I can remove it? Thanks in advance for any replies.

I too have heard that but have not investigated doing it. It was also stated that if you have a louder after market muffler on your car you won't hear the supercharger, so it's my guess it isn't going to be very loud withoout the baffles.

My son's say they can hear my SC but I can't. (Too many rock concerts when I was younger. )

If you do remove the baffles...take pictures of each step and post a tutorial here.

Best of luck!

Ah trust me if I do I will, I'm an auto mechanic here in Germany but this one even I can't figure out. I'm going to tear down the engine this weekend in the shop and see what I discover. I've got until september to figure this out on my own, but figured it would be easier to ask here; because I'm racing the SLK at Hockenheim and wanted that supercharger whine for a good intimidation factor. So if anyone knows where the baffle is; let me know and I will do a full write up with pictures.

Be aware the SC doesn't kick in until 2600 RPM.

Welcome to the forum. Post some pics of your ride when you can.

Tslick's right about the SC not kicking in until around 2600 RPM. It is quiet, but I can hear mine if the radio's not turned up. It's an interesting question you pose. Like the others, I'm curious about this. If you are able to make this happen please don't stop with just pictures. Get a video/audio and post so we can hear the difference as well.

I kinda think it would be neat to hear a little SC "Whine".............not quite in your ears like a "Gilmer drive".

Technically I am not in Frankfurt, I live just outside of Frankfurt/Offenbach in a small town called Obertshausen.

Anyways tomorrow after work I'm putting it up on the lift in the shop to see what I can find out. With any luck I will find this little plastic bastard and get this engine to at least sound somewhat better. I miss driving my old Camaro SS, that thing always sounded badass but unfortunately due to gas prices in Germany, that didn't come with me when I moved here. So I will see in the morning and post the results tomorrow after I take it all apart.

Well after pulling apart the entire supercharger assembly I came to a conclusion and found nothing. So now I guess I have one of two options.

Option A is find a way to take out the built in restrictions such as the little pockets where air can go.

Option B is drop in the supercharger from a 2000+ model SLK

So it's back to the drawing board. I'll let you guys know what I come up with when I find the solution.

Hmm not bad, definately has a little whine to it. I'm going to have to look into one of those pulley kits. Next time I go back stateside to visit I'll order one. But anyways we're going to have some fun with the car later this week. We are going to tune the ECU to tell the supercharger to stay on from idle until redline.

You might try the MAF relocation mod. It moves the MAF a little closer to remove some of the lag.

Also, in additon to the upgraded supercharger, I believe Brabus makes a pulley for the otherside of the supercharger to get it to spin even quicker.

hey twitch,
If your in Germany you might as well order the pulley kit there because most of the companies Ive found are in Germany and ship international to us in the states! save a couple bucks and waiting time, also cheaper then 00+ sc! also maby a little port and polish and the MAF relocation would help, and cost you close to nothing! Good luck and let us know how that tune works out... maby just a little more boost at idle will make that baby scream at 3K!
