Default Great 'day trip' in North Texas

My local section of the Mercedes Benz Club took a short road trip this past weekend and I thought I'd share with you all.

Our caravan to Palestine set out from Waxahachie so that members living in various areas of the Fort Worth / Dallas Metroplex can more easily participate in this event. At the Palestine depot, our group of 30 members and kids boarded a (fortunately) climate-controlled coach which was pulled by the venerable No. 300, an antique Baldwin 2-8-0 steam engine of 83 tons, built 1917. The train took us to a journey through the piney woods from Palestine to Rusk, where we had a picnic lunch beneath shade trees at the Rusk Depot.

After lunch, we took the train back to Palestine, where we took to our cars for the trip back north. The caravan stopped at the Russell Stover candy factory at Corsicana where we shopped at their factory store. We then took a back roads detour on the way back to Fort Worth / Dallas and a dinner stop in Waxahachie. My wife and I decided not to go with the rest of the group back to Fort Worth; rather, we decided to stay at a local B&B in Waxahachie where we met some wonderful people and had a very relaxing evening (and of course a delicious breakfast the next morning).

I am loving that 60's W113 SL Pagoda, I absolutely love the 280SL,230 and 250. Thank you for sharing, the R107 80's SL looks good too.

Sounds like an enjoyable day! great pics.

Let me know if you guys ever make a more Southerly trip I see a few SLKs around town, have even left a few SLKworld cards under some wiperblades, but dont seem to be enough South Texas folks for a day trip.

Where are you at, Jason? My wife and I go to south Texas about 1-2 times per year. Maybe we could meet up.

Thanks MO. You can see my black SLK in front of the cream colored SL. It's a 1971 model, I think a 280SL. Very clean and in great condition. I just loved looking in my rear view mirror on this drive. That '71 has an awesome stance!

Then in front of me you can see the red 1984 SL. There was also a 1973 280SL and another nice one was a black SL63 AMG. That is one sweet car!

We've got three classic SLK's stored in our ranch, a 1969 280SL which was restored at the Mercedes-Benz Autocentre in Stuttgart a few years ago, 1986 420SL and a 450SLC. All belong to family members and cars that are retired now.

I noticed your SLK, the R170 is a looker and it what started my affair with the SLK exactly 11 years ago.

Yeah, we usually go to Rockport/Fulton Beach area. Looking to move there when I retire from the police department in about 7 years. In the meantime, we just visit when we can.
