Hi all, I'm a new benz owner as of a few days ago - 2001 SLK 320 so I just want to thank all of you in advance for any help/light you can shed when it comes to any questions benz related that I may be coming up with in the coming weeks. Right now, I have an alpine headunit, rockford amp, and two alpine type R 10" subs that I pulled from my previous vehicle (1994 BMW 325IS). I'm going to be incorporating at least the headunit and amp into my SLK tomorrow but I am unsure as to how to deal with having a sub/subs. I was trying to find out about stealth boxes (like JL Audio does) or other custom sub boxes that will fit best in the SLK 320 but I am having some trouble and not finding much on the forums...or not looking in the right places. Can anyone shed some light on the following questions I have: (1) Are there any pre-made sub boxes that fit in the trunk for the SLK 320...either all the way at the back or something that can fit where the spare is (false floor). (2) Will I be able to hear the sub ok with the top down if I fit a sub/subs in the back trunk? Any advice as to placement and aim of the sub (towards the rear of the truck facing backwards, up, or towards the front of the car?) (3) If you think I might have trouble hearing the sub in the back trunk with the top down, would it be better to somehow put the sub somewhere in the front of the vehicle (kick-panels) or some other way? (4) Can people PLEASE post pictures of the sub set up you have either in the back trunk somewhere or in the front of the car kick-panels, or however you have it. (5) Lastly, is anyone selling a custom/pre-made sub box that fits well in the SLK 320 or know of any place where I can buy one? Thank you in advance for any help that anyone can provide and hopefully some of you have some experience with this and will have some helpful insight. Thank you, Tim

Hey Tim! Welcome to SLKWorld!! Nice to see another 170!!! Man! I wish I could give you some input on your sub-woofer challenge. I honestly have never seen anyone here do anything with a sub in the trunk because you already have subs behind the seats. Granted they aren't blasters, but they do the job considering how big (or small) they are. Please share with us whatever you come up with. And post some pics of your ride!

Thanks for the welcome! Wow, I am having a hard time believing that no one puts a system in their SLK....I know there is not a whole lot of room, but I figured some people would have gotten inventive and would have thrown a sub either all the way at the back of the trunk or even utilize part of the spare tire area. Where are the factory sub(s) located, how many are there, and are they 8"? You can tell I am a newbie....the stock base sounded better than I imagined when I turned it up so I should have figured there was some kind of a stock sub...but I couldn't see it =) Out of sight, out of mind, not there to me so clue me in...it must be built in behind the seat in between the seat area and the trunk? I will post pics in the next day or so, but its bone stock so it wont really impress anyone =) Thanks for any help! Tim

I know someone did a trunk setup before. I remember seeing pictures of the quite elaborate and well done system. It may have been over on mbworld or benzworld. You might want to google for it. Personally, I like the stock sound system just fine. I wouldn't change it just for the sake of changing it. Oh, I just noticed yours is an SLK 320. That is the Bose system and their is a speaker behind the seat. I think only on the driver's side, but it has been a while since I had my SLK 320.

It was a option to have the rears, If you order upgraded bose you have rears, if not you dont. There is a false floor on the pass side of the slk, You can fit a small sub box in there, I have also seen a sub set into the floor firing up, With a heavy duty grill. ( as the pass feet my kick it )
