Question 98 SLK230 Vibration

I have a 98 SLK230 with just over 100k miles on it now.

The car has started vibrating recently and has progressively got worst. We resently had a tune up done with all the plugs changed and so on hoping that would stop it, but nothing...

I am tring to keep from having to go to the dealer, but I am getting to the point where I don't think I will have any other choice.

I think it may be a broken motor mount, but I am unsure on how to check that. It vibrates the worst while backing up and almost as bad while idling at a light. Also the convertable light comes on now for no reason and starts alarming while driving even though the top is down. So I think the vibrations have messed up the sensor for the top as well.

There is nothing in managment systems saying there is anything wrong, I had it checked at 3 different places.

I would like to know if anyone has had similar problems, and if so what did you find to be the problem?

Also if there is a way to check the motor mounts?

And/Or if someone has some ideas as to what may be causing it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

AJ

Sounds like motor mounts. Have a look at them, they are oil filled you may see them leaking which means they need to be replaced.

Welcome to SLKWorld AJ! Glad to see another 170!

You should post your question in the "AskDanSLK" section. You might get a few other options to consider. No offense livefreeordie.

Thanks for the replies. It turned out to be the mounts both trans. and motor.
