Hi All, I got my SLK230 tagged today by a forum member, who I believe had the *very* nice looking SL 55 parked nearby This looks like a great forum, and I look forward to prowling around. We have a 2001 Silver SLK230 Compressor, and it's our first convertible. We love it. It's such a responsive car and I enjoy the road feel. I do have one question: does the windscreen net really make a difference when you have the top down? I was thinking about getting it, but I always like hearing other people's opinions too. thanks! motionmonk 01 SLK230 93 500SEL 06 Mini Cooper S

Welcome aboard. I bought my 230 new in 03 and still love it. I use the windscreen now and then but IMO it does not make any difference. Enjoy your new ride.

Thank you all for such a warm welcome! This looks like a fun group! Hey Cold Shot, thx for tagging me; it’s always good to find car people around. Maybe I’ll see you sometime at that same location again. BTW I tried to send you a PM, but I have to post for a while before I can do that. Am glad you spotted my post. Thx for the input from everyone on the windscreen; I've been toying with getting one, but it’s good to know you all go bare too, hehe! We’ve had the SLK for about 2 years now, and it’s still a treat to climb in and let her take us around... and she does like to go! -livefreeordie: I love my Mini as well; it’s my daily driver. I drive entirely too fast in it, and I get perma-smile each time I’m in it, which matches what I feel in the SLK. Since this is a SLK board, feel free to msg me if you want specifics on the Mini ![]() If you all can bear a mixed up story, our Mini and the SLK are very much tied; I got my Mini brand new in Dec06, and we went to a dealer-sponsored owner event in March07. The Mini dealer is literally around the corner from the Benz dealership here, and as we pulled on the access road, my wife spots a very clean looking late 90s W140-class S420. So we pull in to admire it, and about an hour later, we’re pulling the paperwork to purchase it. We took our sales guy back to the house so we could grab some information, and to get my dad’s 1984 300TD as a trade-in. I should also point out, we had 5 cars already at the house (3-car garage!), plus my dad’s Benz as well (he passed away Dec06). When we got back to the dealership, we realized that -maybe- getting one more car isn’t the brightest thing to do! But that’s when we spotted the SLK on the lot for almost the same price. We looked at each other, took a test drive, and... we had an SLK! ![]() A neighbor let us park one of our cars in his garage, and we sold it for his daughter later that year, so we have 4 cars now... but it can be a toss up for us as to which is the more fun car. The Cooper is very agile and maneuverable, and has great low-end torque. The SLK has a touch of compressor lag, and you can’t throw it around a turn the same way you can toss a Cooper, but open her up on a straightaway and she can motor! Handling is great, and with the wonderful Spring we are having, it’s great to open the top and feel the breeze. We often catch ourselves just laughing enjoying being in it. I really admire the engineering that went into the SLK; it's been a blast to have! I still have some exploring to do here on the forums, but has anyone done any performance mods or ECU flashes to their SLK? Ours is bone-stock with aftermarket radio, but I've had a wicked thought about how she'd handle on some autocross... again, thank you all for having us here

Hi and welcome You're asking the wrong people: should be asking the passengers :-) My survey of passengers says the mesh helps a lot on the motorway, not much otherwise. I agree with the others though, doesn't look so nice so normally I don't put it on. Get baseball caps or drive slowly ! Happy driving Jonathan

I keep the windscreen net up all the time. However, in my previous SLK 320, I think the net was harder to see through at night and so I didn't use it much. The major difference in air turbulence is accomplished by rolling up the windows. The net makes some difference, and, as I said, I keep it installed all the time.

I think you will definately find people here who have modded their 230's. Some have gone to amazing lengths...others prefer very stock rides. I am waiting a bit before adding a supercharger and other mods as I want a little more time stock and with the factory warranty. It's not like I have a lack of power as is!!! We hope you are able to post some pics soon and enjoy your time here. With as many SLK's as we have here in the valley, we only have a few members here on the forum. It's why I leave the cards whenever I see a nice SLK around town. There are about 4 members who are locals, but only two of them have I seen regularly on the forum. Again, welcome!!

When I drive around town I usually have my windows down, until the 'tard in the Neon next to me decides to drown me out or I get fumigated by a diesel truck. At highway speeds, I agree-- the windows up do alot to cut turbulence. Am glad you brought up the issue about night visibility... had not even thought about that one. | |

Very nice pics... I like the clean look of the silver SLK's. Definitely a close 2nd in my opinion, next to black. Looks good next to the Mini, too. Well done! Mike
