| Hello. I'm Josh, and I'm new to the forum. I own a 2004 SLK, black w/ black interior. I'm totally new to Mercedes, and am very happy to have purchased my vehicle! A question -- I wish to do some style 'upgrades' to the vehicle. Any suggestions as to what modifications are good (and what cheesy modifications to avoid), and also where I can purchase the goods? Glad to be here! Josh |

| Congratulations Josh and welcome to the forum, were glad to have you here. Since you have the R171 I'd go for a nice set of wheels with lowering springs, Sport grille ala SLK32 Style and trunk lid spoiler.

| Actually, it seems that the 2004 slk320 is based on the r170. Or am I wrong? Actually I just looked it up, and I believe there's both. I'm one of the ones with the r170. So... what can I do, inside and out, to make this a 'cooler' vehicle? I'm anxious to hear.... I'm new to this so if I try on my own it will end up looking like something out of a circus! Thanks. |

| Loads of stuff for the r170, New stuff every month really. A few diff types of front lights few diff rear lights, Loads of diff grills, 18" wheels are a huge upgrade to the look. I think less is more on the 170, So some wheels a grill your side markers and your done, Now if your still not quite happy enough, Then lower it, Maybe front projecter lights ( if you have hids you will lose them ) led rears. To much stuff to list, Any questions feel free to drop me a PM or post and I will go through what I can with you. Post a photo of your car, So we have an idea of colour and such, And maybe throw some ideas at you. And what type of look are you going for...... Mean, pritty, bling ? |

| Addendum - If you were to buy some chrome for the outside, ie. chrome door handles or chrome light trim, would you suggest going all out with the chrome, buying multiple chrome enhancements for the outside of the vehicle, or would you suggest keeping it conservative, and only buying a few items? Would you suggest avoiding the chrome altogether for the black on black slk320? Thanks yet again J |

| NO please no flick on chrome bits. You will make me cry. It does not need them, If anything I would lose the chrome slk320 badge to make the back clean. Us euro's love the clean look. |

| Leave the chrome for Mercedes-benz germany to decide what and where to use it, a mercedes that is overly chromed is ugly.

| Ok -- so no chrome outside. Should I leave the original wheels? Should I put any chrome on the inside? Also, what about those adhesive based mods (like a spoiler)? Are they durable and decent? |

| The spoilers are durable and decent, they add a nice sporty touch to the cars exterior.

| Thanks. The current inventory I'm thinking about purchasing: aluminum door pins, 'mercedes benz' blue backlit door sills, low profile spoiler, LED tail lights (if I can find any at a good price), a new head unit, possibly KUDA mount for GPS, possibly some minor ground effects (but I'm probably a little too old for that.) Also, what about changing the instrument panel backlighting? Possible? |

| Yes I think you can change it, there was a website going on the name of matrix.de if memory serves me right. It used to provide many mercedes parts and so are performanceproducts.com and amgkit.com

| Like I said less is more on the slk, New wheels are a big change, And really updates the car, The led rears are very pritty, But hold off for a few weeks, peeps I know have them, so lets wait and see what they think first. The cluster thing can be done, But Meh its ok, the crossfire clock face fits, its black. If I were you I would do the trim bits you have talked about, And a new set of 18" and see how you feel about it then. If you still feel you need more, add some, But a overdone car can look random, Add a little at a time. |

| Congratulation on the SLK! I agree with the black on black clean " black" look. The only thing I will change to chrome will be the roll bar. I think it will look very nice on a black SLK. |
