Yet another roof problem thread.

First of all, I apologize for another roof issue thread! Hopefully my issues are not solved by something that's already been posted because damn if I haven't read a ton of threads and not seen this issue.

Little bit of background - I've only had the car since Saturday so I don't have much history on it. It did rain here Monday morning, not sure if some water may have gotten into somewhere and is creating a short.

Here's a video showing button flashes + sounds the system is making. (my car came from Japan and yells at me in Japanese upon startup)

Current Symptons:

When I start the car (or just turn key to second click) I hear the front windows clicking attempting to close. If I press the roof button forward or back the noise stops.

Previous Symptoms:

After work today I tried to put the top down and the trunk lid opened up, but the system wouldn't allow anything to progress any further. I turned the car off and back on then closed the top.

On Tuesday, I had the windows down before starting the car, and the front windows were stuttering to close with no buttons pressed.

I imagine these are symptoms of switch issues, but I have no idea which one, as the troubleshooting pdf doesn't mention the clicking sounds stemming from the front windows.

Hopefully I've given enough info for someone to chime in with some assistance!

Thanks in advance!

I'm guessing from your post that you've gone through the tree list?

How old and what condition is your battery?
Roof eats a lot of juice to raise/lower.

To be quite honest, I've no idea what the variations of "AD77.50-P-6000-04A" mean under the remedy column. If I had to assume, they were switch codes...but I'm lost on that front - feel free to shed some light on that!

Because the uniqueness of the front window stutter issue I experienced I didn't think my problem fit any of those listed.

Absolutely no idea on the age as I ordered the car from Japan. I will test the battery tonight and report back - thanks for the suggestion.

The behavior of your red switch is unique - never seen or heard of that before. It is almost as if the switch is broken.

A bad battery might account for it, make sure yours is 100%

One thought I had is that there's a short somewhere causing the switch to go haywire...which might make sense if water got into some connections somewhere.

Can't find my multimeter at the moment...will have to pick up another this weekend. In the meantime, I did hook leads up to my other car (<1 year old battery) and the problems were not fixed. I will double check with tester this weekend though.

I do, I can hear the switch engage when the cover slots in.

Same issues were still here this morning, and when I got in to head to lunch. ***BUT*** when I got back to work from my lunch I just had a feeling about it...tried putting it down, and the damn thing worked flawlessly - also back up with no issues. I'm at a loss guys. I will be able to tinker this weekend if needed, and we'll go from there.

Hopefully it was just some kind of sequence issue and nothing is actually wrong with it.

Anyways, tell the age of the battery by looking at a sticker (side, top, someplace) that (usually) has months and years. You'll have to remove the black plastic cover above the battery to see this sticker.

Date of mfg will have the corresponding month and year "punched out"/"blacked out"/etc.
This hasn't been punched out but the sticker will look something like this one

This walmart marine battery has the same sticker

AD77.50-P-6000-04A refers to a certain WIS (Workshop Information System) document. In this case this .
It tells you that if you get error codes B1010/1011 on your OBD scanner you need to check the voltage on pin 58 of control unit N10-3 (I believe that is somewhere under the hood, I don't have nor ever had, so no specific experience, a R170) and it should read somewhere between 11-14 V. Furthermore the ignition should be on. And if the test fails a possible cause could be a bad cable.
The troubleshooting tree refers to different WIS documents for different symptoms.

Well, nothing I did fixed it...literally. I did nothing, and it's fixed.

Fired it up this weekend to go grab a new Multi-meter, and there was no motor whirring, button flashes, or windows close attempts. So I pressed my luck and tried to put the top down - works like a dream. Has been working perfectly since.

Also - I went to check the sticker for age of battery as suggested, of course my battery sticker isn't punched out so who knows!

Thanks everyone for the input and what not, I have no doubts that you are responsible for solving my problems.

if you have no idea how old the battery is, I would suggest getting it really tested and at a minimum buy a new one
if original battery, (i doubt it) it is what, 17 years old?
