My cable has worn/split wire and needs replacing
Is this easy and anyone know how to do it?

Dug through your history and saw you were an R170.

Here's the Pelican Parts article for Hood Cable Replacement.

Good luck!

Don't think the above link is for the SLK -

On my '96 car the cable ran from the handle up into the big fuse box (under the bonnet in front of the driver) and out the bottom front corner of the fuse box, then ran along the side of the wing to the front.

When stripping my car I tried to remove the cable by pulling it through from the wing area - the barrel end piece (where it connects to the red handle under the dash) was too big to pass through the rubber grommet at the bottom of the fuse box so I gave up. Can't think why I didn't try pulling it through from the other side .

It would be incredibly difficult to thread a new cable through the hole in the bottom of the fuse box unless you are able to pull it through attached to the existing one somehow.

Perhaps there is an easy way - I was just going gun-ho looking for bits I could remove quickly.
