Cruise Control & Tire size

I have read many forums regarding cruise control cutting out at speeds over 100KPH and improper tire size. As I was having this problem with my new tires I discovered that my front tire are actually 205/50/16 not 205/55/16 as called for. Will this size be the source of my cruise control issue? There was a great online tire size calculator posted at once time but since I need to check the calculation I can no longer locate it. Thanks!

You did not state the size of the rear tires.

YOu can use this website and compare two different sizes. If it is more than 3% difference you will have problem with the cruise control working.

Custom rims, wheel tire packages for your ride - RIMSnTIRES.com

Compare the rear tire size to the front tire size. The SLK has different sizes for the front and the rear.

Cruise control just maintains a speed, does not care what the speed is. Why would it care about tire size ?

I guess the speed sensors don't like it.
Perhaps the ECU does a comparison, not liking the outcome and plays safe with a slower cruise control speed.

But several members have reported the tyre size/ cruise control issue so looks like it does.

It could be a safety policy.
If car detects different tyre sizes, either wrong tyres fitted or a spare of a different size. So therefore not safe to be
on cruise control over a certain speed.
I am ofcourse just making up this argument as I go along, but put yourself in the shoes of the safety Engineers.....

The inflatable spare inflates to different size and therefore rolling radius at different pressures, so car sensor could
be programmed to assume a spare is fitted,,,,,, or chains.

If anything causes a fault in ESP/BAS/Antilock, it can stop cruise from working.

Yes as others have stated it is a safety feature. The car has anti skid and traction control and so forth. If it detects that a tire is turning faster than other tires it shuts of the cruise control. It allows for a 3% difference. One example would be a wheel hits a puddle in the road could slow down and if it is a driving wheel the cruise control would speed up to maintain speed, then the wheel hit dry payment the car then could speed off or go out of control.

I'm running at about 3.3% over so I guess it is the size of the tires. Thanks!

Guess that is verification I can't run a 26" rear tire, 245x45x17 is it. (25.7", 2.8% over the 25" fronts). Am surprised it is set to such a low differential, would expect more like 10% slip
