Hi all, sorry to bring this up, about Vario roof switches, looks like the problem I have begins when the trunk lid is open widows are down roof does not move, If I am understanding correctly the switches that I need to check are the ones in the quarter panels, because when I try to close the trunk lid; it closes but I get flashing red light on the roof switch. if I need to buy new switches; do I go to a dealer or are they available from on line parts stores. I apologize if I read previous posts about the roof and I did not understand, I appreciates any suggestion that help me resolve my problem.
PS. I checked the curtain switch, I think it works because the process starts the lid opens up, I read somewhere to re adjust the latch, I did, nothing happened, from everything I read, if I understand points to the in panel switches, hope someone has had this and knows the solution.

The next step in the roof lower process is for the roof to separate from the top of the windshield. I suggest you check and make sure the two latches are being released and if so are the two switches/sensors functioning to tell the system that the roof is properly unlatched and ready to be retracted.

thank you for your reply, I hear the function in the headliner, the problem is; even if I give up and re close the deck lid, after all the windows go up the light blinks, this is why I am guessing are the switches in the trunk, to access do I have to undo all the inside panels? or what. thank you again for reply

If you think the front of the roof is operating properly then the next step would be to check that the switch/sensor that indicates the trunk lid is open would be the one to check. Follow the trouble shooting guide that is part of one of the posts that jbanks posted. To get to the sensor you will need to pull the cover panels off. Here is a link that will show/tell you where all of the switches/sensors are located. Component Locations

I know nothing but I offer: did you try the battery reset? If it was working fine one day and not the next, maybe the "sequence" for it to complete the cycle is out of whack?

disconnect the neg cable for a minimum of 30 minutes
reconnect cable
reset clock

try roof operation

This really seems to fix a lot of electro issues.

As a battery could be the issue,
how old is it?
How often do you use the car and is it short or longer trips?

Could be the battery does not have enough power to complete the sequence.

Myk

Not sure what issue you were trying to correct by removing the cap but MB has them on there for a reason. I will be inclined to not remove.

I don't have an R170, so I'm not familiar with those work around solutions. Good if they work.
