Default Hello from a newbie....

Hello All,

I'm fresh to this forum and still finding my way around so my question might be answered already.....

I am looking at a 05 SLK350 and am wondering if there are any issues that I need to investigate before I make a deal. The vehicle is NOT at a MB dealer (a Lincoln dealer) but they said they took it to the MB dealer and checked out OK.

TIA,
Chip

Welcome. As everyone will tell you, some, not all, of the early 2005 SLK 350s suffered from oil consumption issues. I wouldn't consider a 2005 with the oil issue, regardless of repair, at any price. Too many other 2005 and up at good prices. As with any used vehicle, take a good hard, objective look before buying. I found two great SLKs on eBay, and purchased both. Again, welcome to the best SLK information site anywhere.

Welcome to the forum...and good luck with your purchase..just bought a leftover 2006 myself, from a MB dealer, 1300mi and a great deal...there are always some to be had if you are patient.

Thanks for the inputs. CarFax shows an inservice date of 01-07-2005 so this may be a candidate for the oil probloem you mentioned. I had not heard about that issue so will do more looking around for information on that.

Welcome Cphooper. Look for 2006 or even 2007 with low mileage. You might get a very good price on a left-over 2007.

Here's a link from another site. Only a small number of early 2005 SLK 350 were affected. It's possible the car you mention falls within the range based on the in service date. MB provided a production fix in Feb 05. To be sure, you would have to have the engine serial number. Some repairs resulted in engine replacement. Smart bet, consider only 2005s built March 2005 on.
