R170 Steering Not Self Centering

Hi everyone. I just got my R170 SLK 200 about 2 months ago and there is a slight issue with the steering. At low speeds less than 10 - 15 mph coming out of my drive or in a car park for example, the steering is not self centering after I make a right angle turn. It's not a huge problem but it is slightly annoying as I have never driven a car with this issue.

I had to get the front tires replaced because the insides were worn and my neighbour suggested that I should get a wheel alignment which I did. The engineer said the alignment was OK but when he was test driving the car it was pulling slightly to the left. I have only noticed this under fairly hard braking. However, the non self centering issue is happening with both left and right turns to an equal degree.

I recently had the car serviced and a ball joint was replaced on the front driver's side (Right - I'm in the UK). I had another mechanic check the rest of the car while he was inspecting an oil leak and he didn't notice anything odd with the steering components. Also the car has just passed the MOT (yearly UK government car safety inspection) and nothing was mentioned about the steering components.

Anyway, I just posted so I could get some suggestions as to why this steering issue is happening and what I need to do to correct it. Could this have anything to do with the steering damper?

And if ball joints have been replaced after req 4 wheel alignment again .

I got wheel alignment when getting the front tyres replaced. I had the rear tyres replaced 4 weeks later.

So is the steering damper a cheap fix?

Do I go for an original Mercedes part or is there a third party company that makes a damper that has been improved beyond the original?

Yes, it was 2 wheel alignment on the front from my understanding, which as I'm sure you can gather, is very limited. Balancing was included with the tire change.

I had the rear tires replaced a month later when I had the money.

I think I will take it to another tire company for a 2nd opinion on the wheel alignment.

Get a 4 wheel alignment check out video if u haven't, covers steering wheel centering and all the symptoms u have

Nope never on my cars
But before 4 wheel alignment
You need to check the whole car suspension joints
Tyres
Pressures
Coil springs
Shockabsorbers are all good
And the steering damper is not worn / weak etc
Correct alloys to not aftermarket ones .

2 wheel alignment is no good and believe you need a spacer bar placed on front wheel on the 170 to do tracking correctly.
