Automatic Trans gets stuck in park!

Hey,

So this started happening last week and it's very odd. The gear shifter (it's an auto) gets stuck in Park. it's as if you aren't holding the brake when you try to shift out of Park. Yet I am.

The only way to release the gear shifter is to use the "tow truckers" method, which is to stick in a long device into the slot right below the P R N D and press in the release switch. We use a flat head screw driver.

Anyways, I want to know what's going on! This happened out of no where and hoping I can fix it myself. Any ideas? It's getting a little ghetto putting my Mercedes into Drive or Reverse using a screw driver

back to the are you applying the brake pedal. When pressing the brake pedal do you hear/feel a click that allows you to move your lever out of park. if your hand is on the gear shifter, you should feel a click. If not the solenoid is probably bad or a blown fuse. Start there.

WOW good point, I remember always hearing and feeling that click but never registered that I stopped feeling it. I'll test it out one more time to be sure. Thanks so much for getting to me! I'll update once I check!

Any ideas what fuse would be the culprit (if it is a blown fuse). I just checked and there is no audible click or physical "click" when I push the brake pedal in.

I found this fuse rundown of all fuses in each block. I can't find anything that looks like it'd deal with the brake.. help!

Okay, seems like it might be the switch (after looking at many other posts). Is this the right part to order?

It happens to our SLK320 last week, shift gear stuck in "P" and we cannot reverse the car to be out of our garage. We called MB roadside assistence service and they sent someone who knows how to pull a car out without 4 wheels rolling, MB dealer inpected the program and told me the brake stop lamp switch was bad, they replaced it and it is running again now.

Where are the solenoid or fuse that you are referring to? My slk320 has same problem. I replaced the brake light switch under dash but it's still stuck in park.
