| Hi All -- Excuse very silly beginner's question: could some kind souls who are already lucky enough to have these cars confirm something for me? This is a normal automatic? ![]() And this one is a tiptronic? ![]() Many thanks all. Jonathan. Last edited by jonathan; 04-15-2007 at 03:35 PM. Reason: found some pictures myself |

| I think tiptronic is actually the trademark of the porshe clutchless gearbox. the MB one is speedshift. or the 7Gtronic for the 7 speed automatic. not sure what a standard MB auto looks like, but thats not the 7Gtronic either. this is what it looks like. ![]() couldn't find a piccie of the shifter, sorry.

| Hi Jonathan, easty is right, tiptronic is a Porsche trademark. But the speedshift from MB is only available for the AMGs. The change of gear runs faster than in the normal automatic. Your first picture shows the automatic gearshift of the SLKs between 1996 and 2000, the second one bewteen 2000 and 2004. In 2000 was conducted a facelift. In both cases a normal automatic is behind it, after 2000 slightly improved, but don't ask for details. The only difference in use is that you can lock the smaller gears by pulling back the shifter in the 96+ models and pushing to the left in the 00+ models. A manual mode is availabe for the 171, stock for the AMGs and as a option for the other 7G-Tronic cars. Regards Bernd
