SLK Hardtop / Windows Problem

I recently purchased a used 2002 SLK230 in Miami... it drives great and the top worked fine when we tested it

However just a week ago I started have top issues... I live in FL and keep the SLK garaged so I often leave the top down

However now when I attempt to raise the hardtop it comes up and latches and the trunk lowers but then it stops... the back windows do not go up and when I drive it Beeps at me as if the top is not closed properly. Luckily it does go back down without any problem.

What can I do about this? Please Help!

check the switch that the trunk cover clicks into.

I checked that and it looks fine... it fact everything in the trunk looks fine... and as I mentioned the top goes up and down smoothly... it just doesn't finished the going up process and roll the windows up and since the button is red and beeps it even knows it's not done... what could cause it not to finish?

what windows won't go up? the rear ones? you might have done this but after the front windows are up, double click the window switch again and see if they go up.

Are the trunk bumpers (screw adjusters to stop the trunk from vibrating when it is closed, at the leading/front edge) even? If not, the trunk may not be fully closed at the front.

Since the next function in the closing sequence is the rear windows raising after the trunk lid is closed and locked, I'd check these two switches first. The front windows go up a few seconds after the rears.

i haven't fixed it but i have figured out a trick to get the windows up. after the top is up i would press on the driver side of the trunk then push the top button again and all the windows go up. i am sure it is a micro switch on the drive side but i haven't had time to play with it. it is easier just to get out of the car press lightly on the trunk and hit the top button again. let me know if that helps.

My 2000 Mercedes SLK230 side windows would not go up during top closing

I just ran into the same problems as Archangel with my 2000 Mercedes SLk230 where the windows would not go up during
the closing operation. My Mercedes would get to Step 4 and the small windows would not go up and you could hear
the motor running but nothing. The door windows would not go up during the operation, only manually.
I ended tearing the Mercedes apart and first ohmed out the left/right trunk lid limit switches (S69/7 & S69/8) and
they both ohmed out good. Then ohmed out the Vario roof limit switches using the yellow connector in the trunk right
side area and it turned out to be my problem. The circuit had an open and I was lucky to have another
S69/2 &S69/3 circuit to replace it with and now works just fine. Unfortunately when I took out the left trunk lid limit
switch, the cable came off the bottom of the rear actuator and the trunk lid would not unlock during the open
sequence but again thanks for others having issues it led me to the problem.
I have to say thanks for this forum otherwise I would not been able to fix my car on my own. It has become an
incredible place to go to learn more about your own personal car. A couple of months ago my front locking actuator
began leaking really bad and I used the forum to learn how to take the car apart and fixing my front locking
actuator and putting back in. Still had to replace the headliner ($203 ouch).
If anybody has run into the same problems and needs some assistance, let me know?
Archangel, did you ever fix your problem with your Mercedes?

an obscure but tricky problem I had is the trunk switch actuator levers on the trunk had come loose and would cause error codes, beeping and switch light staying on. have to stop the roof at mid point of opening or closing to be able to check it. this caused me grief for 4 months until I found it.

any help will be greatly appreciated!
also the plastic rod that align the roof where broken last time the roof was raised manually!! Anyone know if the black plastic rods coming out the latches on the top of the roof need to be in one piece for the roof to actually finish closing and put the little windows up??

Hardtop operation: Trunk won't go down

lito420, I believe without checking further on the steps of the hardtop operation, it is the microswitch in the upper right top hole of the windshield. The little black aligning rod sets the microswitch so that steps knows to let your trunk down. If you find the step chart, it might helps to assist.
